Newbie with delima

Hi guys have been taking lessons for only few mOnths now and have a question.For Christmas my wife and kids got me an acoustic bass not knowing much about them lol. Well I have found the acoustic to be quite bulky for my short arms and small hands, I love learning and practicing but thought an electric may be less bulky and a little more comfortable, from my research here it seems a jazz vs p model in general may fit my arm/hand size a little better am I correct? Just wanting to double check if I'm processing this info correctly lol. I don't really have a preference for q certain sound or type of music yet just thinking of comfort, when I get alot better I'll worry about more specifics, thanks in advance for your help

Jazz necks are both slimmer and narrower than P necks. Ibanez is also known for having slim and narrow necks as are many of the USA Peaveys. A USA Peavey Fury has an even narrower nut width than a Jazz neck and you can find used USA Fury's for less than $200.

I will say however than don't let having small hands dictate your choice as many people with small hands play wide neck ERB's (extended range bass) quite effectively.

Buy a Squire Bronco. Short scale and jazz nut width for $150 or less.

Super comfy. My favorite bass to play.

Thanks, I'm not really going to let it dictate my playing style per se, even though it's cool to have an acoustic just want something a little less cumbersome and just thought something like a fender jazz might be the ticket like In the $800-$900 range

The American Jazz Deluxe has a smaller body than the Jazz Standard. You could probably find a very nice used one in your price range. They are a superb bass.

I'm going to throw Yamaha into the ring for inexpensive, easy playing basses. Anything I've picked up in the RBX line has always felt super comfy.
