Newer bassist here (and there)

Hi.
I'm not totally new to it, I have some time under me (and enjoyed all of it, bass gets me all romantic for it), but I just finally got a bass of my own fairly recently (a 1960s-70s Kay KB-24), and figured it'd be good to have a resource hanging around I can use if I need it. I've been lurking for quite a while beforehand, for sure, but it'd be good to have an account if I ever want to ask a question or give a perspective.
I'm not (at least yet) with a band, mostly just recording at home. Just doing practice and covers at the moment, but I'm working towards original tracks. Not really focusing on vintage or modern, just whatever sounds good. I wouldn't mind the job, but I'm not really at that point yet.
Beyond that, I sort of hop between a few different interests, one of them being keeping up with the news in paleontology; another being railfanning (my favorites being Santa Fe and Conrail if you're wondering).
