Next bass

Hi, this is my first post here, so thank you that I have oportunity to be here. I have a beautiful Ernie Ball Musicman Stingray 5 with maple neck and fingerboard. I would like to have another bass with 4 string and PJ combination of pickups. I really like Fender American performer P bass, but I can't really decide between 3tone sunburst with RW fingerboard and placid blue maple neck and fingerboard. What do you think? Or do you have any other bass in mind in this price range?

Not sure how vital the colour is but I would love the opportunity to own one maple and one rose wood necked bass for the different sounds. As it's turned out I've only ever had basses with maple necks.

The Performer is a really nice bass, I have one in Penny, which they no longer have. Since I can’t stand 3TSB, it would have to be LPB.

Penny looks too pink for me. Nice on web pics but in reall I found it too pink for my taste. No problem with 3TSB here.

i'd recommend making a decision based on the feel of the instrument in your hands. colors are cool, but they should never be deal-breakers when searching for a new instrument!

feeling in the hands is most important and i stand by that,i played a nice old fender precision bass in a studio last year and believe it or not my cheap (Tone) 300 dollar overseas special felt better to me..

First thing is to play and decide based on the feel of the neck. To me, I don't even care that much about the pickups because A) nobody is trying to make bad pickups and B) it takes 5 minutes to replace if you want to. The neck is really what you are buying into. I get that color is important in that you're gonna be looking at it for a long time. That's why I don't have a chartreuse guitar! But don't make that your top criteria.

Great choice. Any color scheme though. Strip it and stain it.

I agree with one of the posts above, it should be how the bass feels in your hand and how it sounds, one color comes with rosewood fretboard, the other maple. Neither color is bad or obnoxious so go with the one that feels best. Maple is going to sound brighter, rosewood is warmer, all my basses have rosewood fretboards, so I'm going to be a little too biased about which one I would choose. lol
I thought Arctic white (with rosewood fretboard/black pickguard) was another option - I see it here in the US. I guess it's not available there?

It is, but it's not in stock right now. I tought that all of them have same neck if its the same serie and the difference is just the fretboard. And colour of course.

Ah....probably because it's a popular color choice as it is here. Sunburst doesn't look bad at all mind you, and color is purely aesthetic. Biggest and more important choice will be maple or rosewood fretboard.

Exactly. So maybe I'll try RW because I have MN already.

Take a look at the Yamaha BBP34, it costs close to the same as an Am Performer but is built with the quality of the EBMM.

It’s nice to say to buy what plays best but some of the best basses I have played I ordered on spec because they were not regular stock. Just make sure there is a decent return policy if you do order on spec.

A USA G&L SB-2 is a PJ that would fall within that price range. I really, really dig mine.
