I don't have a favorite pickup configuration. But my preference leans towards two pickup configurations.
Jazz/Jazz
Precision/Jazz
Precision/Precision
But, I do have a P bass that gets played a lot.

Either a straight j/j or a straight p.
Don't like p/j at all, unless it has a three way switch, and then only barely.
