NFL 2017 Week #10

Man, it's been a while since I was here...let's see if I can stir up some trouble....



...welcome to opposite year in the NFL, the New Orleans Saints just scored 6 RUSHING TD's, did not punt one time (last time a team got those two items in one game was 1941 ) and essentially shut a team out with a stifling defense (#1 defense over the past 7 weeks, at that).

Did someone kidnap me from "real earth" and drop me in "mirror earth"? :***:

I'm still not quite sure what to may of my boys in black & gold this year, but I'm definitely enjoying that 7 game winning streak - and looking forward to #8 in a row.

Ezekiel Elliott is suspended again after the injunction request was denied, again. Round and round we go on this one.
The NLFPA is going to screw this one up and find Elliott suspended into the playoffs.

I was happy to be totally wrong about my prediction that Denver's defense would be out to prove a point after having their butts kicked by the Eagles. NOPE. It's hard to believe that the Pat's O-line is that good, but I think it's more that Denver's defense is slowly turning into the same kind of mess that their offense is. But for the Pats, any win you can get at mile high is a good win, even if the Broncos didn't really show up. Yikes. Yuck.

It's got to be demoralizing for the whole team having your special teams virtually hand the opponent 24 points. The offense really didn't play that badly, but the drives and TOP were short. The D is on the field way too long and fighting an uphill battle. They're supposed to be professionals and not let it affect them, but it does. Pats had huge field position advantage pretty much the whole game. Even a good defense can't counter all that.

Deep issues with the Broncos coaching staff and maybe Elway made some bad choices along the way. The roster is stout, plenty of talent. I'm looking for a big shake up in Denver after this season if not sooner.

As an aside, I happened to be at Mile High for this one. The South Stand Broncos lunatics and season ticket holders were having some serious fits, lemme tell ya. Lots of anger in Broncos Country.

Does Raiders owner Mark Davis have no clue? He made this comment at the groundbreaking ceremony for the new NFL stadium in Las Vegas: "Not wanting to disrespect the fans of Oakland ... we love the fans up there and hopefully they follow us here."
It's a nine hour drive from Oakland to Las Vegas. That's an overnighter unless you're a hard core road tripper.
I suppose it's only a 90 minute plane ride, but that is a big deal nowadays going to the airport.
Maybe NFL fans are more dedicated than I give them credit for.

Dunno 'bout that. Have you WATCHED the Saints recently? They're scary - add a running game that just put up ~300 yards (actually it was over 300 before the 2 kneel downs to end the game) to Drew-Mod edit - profanity Brees and a defense that has actually been statistically #1 for the past 7 weeks, and that isn't a team many will want to face. We will see, but I'm getting cautiously optimistic, after three 7-9 seasons of frustration. They're balanced this year, both on offense with a strong passing and running game (#2) as well as balanced between a very good offense and a pretty damned stifling defense. With the running attack they have, they're built to win on the road in cold weather now, too.

It's good to be back, but I won't be as "BACK" as before...just no time, left one job, starting a new job, getting ready to sell a house and move, so free time is not plentiful. That said, I will absolutely be here to gloat at you when my guys put the 2nd Lombardi in the case at Airline Drive.

Not much, they're not a popular programmer's decision for the Pacific Northwet. We tend to get the greatest team ever, the Patriots, or the Titans because of the Mariota connection. But anyhow, it's not even halftime for the season yet, so I'll stick to the decaf for now.

Oh, I totally get that. Living here in Pamper-land, the local programmers do everything they can to avoid broadcasting the Saints, especially this year when it is pretty clear they are the superior team. They had to show the game against Carolina week 4, because it is the "home team", and they didn't think it would end badly, since the Saints were a lowly 0-2, and the home team was expected to mop up the turf with the Saints. A 21-point curbstomping later, and they probably wished they hadn't been forced to broadcast it. NOLA should be taken very seriously this year, they're pretty scary, and that's not just my homerism. They looked out of sorts for the first 2 weeks, took the early bye, and came back a totally different team, 7 straight victories, 5 by double digits. In that period, their pass defense has allowed only 4 TD passes (and 2 of those in "garbage time")

I do watch highlights and pay attention to who is up and coming, at least. I've lived so many places and followed so many teams that I'm not much of a homer at all. Just want to see entertaining games, and new faces in the mix are always fine by me.

Man, I was REALLY bummed at you guys losing Rodgers, he's a first rate player and guy in my book. And the hit that took him out? Dirty. Should have resulted in a suspension and fine, it was clearly intentional and intended to cause injury.

(For honesty, I detest the Vikes, as they were the instigators of the entire "bountygate" garbage, because of their pansy-@$$ed head coach and a bunch of crybaby players - no, I haven't forgotten, nor will I ever forgive them for it. They stole an entire year from my team, solely because they were butt-hurt over getting beaten in the 2010 NFCCG. I actually see Barr making an attempt not to drive Rodgers into the ground buy rolling over on him instead of pounding him into the ground with all his weight.
I found this clip helpful as I formed my opinion. I watched it on mute so as not to be influenced by the commentators.

IMO it was a clean hit. Sometimes they hurt more than others.

BTW, nice to see Hundley throw down the field a bit and win one!

Meanwhile, the Broncos are fire looking for a dumpster to live in.

I'd say this hit straddles right on the borderline, but doesn't cross into being a late or dirty hit. Had Rodgers not been injured, nobody would be saying much about it in these terms. I'm sure Rodgers was pissed and emotional, knowing that he'd just suffered a significant injury. Who wouldn't be? The way the league protects QBs these days, I'm sure the it would have been happy to hand out a fine or suspension if they thought the hit was illegal, especially considering Rodgers' star status. That I know of, none was issued.

For the record I hate that it's a Thursday Night game. These teams always play each other hard and beat the crap out of each other. I'll call it a win if the Titans come out with no significant injuries.
