NFL 2018 Superbowl LIII

Has anyone heard what’s happened to the official who missed the call? Anything? I realize whatever they do to him won’t exactly be public, but it won’t exactly be private either. People will find out; has anyone yet?
I live up here and all, so I’m a Pats fan by default; I’m not passionate about them, but I think NO would have been a tougher opponent for them.
Hey...where's all the talk about the Probowl this weekend? I can't wait! I'm picking NFC - no Packer Palace for that! Should I start a separate thread for discussion? Who you got? Any hot rumors? Players wearing wearing porkpie hats instead of their helmets during the last practice before the game? What?? Orlando and not Honolulu - travesty!
I don't care about the Pro Bowl. I want to see Minshew in the Senior Bowl.
I am flat amazed that there isn't more talk about Minshew, who is a proven leader, set a PAC-12 passing record of nearly 5,000 yards, won over a leaderless team in 30 days, took his team to their first 11-win season in history, can make every throw, and who operated the Air Raid better than it has ever been played before.
If Mahomes is an Air Raid success, Minshew is the biggest sleeper in this year's draft. And he's getting zero press. Just wait a year, some NFL team is about to get big time smart and lucky when they draft him.

I'd rather watch them (actually) play flag football without pads (give the linemen their own separate game) - they might actually try harder, and there would be the same amount of contact.
As to location, Orlando is much easier/cheaper to do (flying everything out there is a nightmare for the league and the media), and most of these players have wives and young kids. My guess is they prefer Disney/Universal as well.

All the leagues want to make money, and have a history of looking the other way:
- do you think the NCAA had any less knowledge, or did anything more (never mind how the vast majority of scholarship players spend 4 years in school, don't get a useable degree, and will never sniff NFL money?
- MLB and steroids
- NHL also with head injuries
-NBA with knees
I accept that the NFL wa$ protecting it$ own intere$t$ when it donned the cloak of Big Tobacco and went all-in on telling 40 year$ worth of lie$ to cover up it$ own culpability regarding 50 year old men not being able to find their way home from the grocery store...aka repeated impact head trauma.
What I Dont under$tand is how any mindful parent could send their 7 year old out onto that field.
I imagine that...not in my lifetime...someday the game of full-contact American football will fill the space that Boxing fills today.

Lindsey Vonn has knees that are bone on bone and has broken multiple bones. She'll have knee replacements by age 40. Alpine skiers suffer a variety of substantial injuries all the time, and recreational skiers die from skiing into trees.
Scuba divers go places they shouldn't and drown. Race car and dragster drivers are injured and killed doing what they enjoy.
Hockey players lose teeth and suffer concussions; soccer players break bones, tear up knees and suffer concussions.
In the midst of this list of injuries, I don't find that football is all that different, although the injury rate is probably higher than in many other sports. Others will disagree with that view.

The failure by the NFL to help some former players is what disturbs me.
The claims from players who were cleared to play after an injury when they shouldn't have, if those are true, then that's even more disturbing to me.

Exactly. The lie is the worst part. It's kind of like asbestos. The class action suits are for those who handled it after their employer knew it was deadly. Once the danger is known it is time to get honest.
I dont see the NFL dying off completely any time soon. If athletes start choosing other sports, perhaps the competition could get weaker, so the league may slowly become less exciting. But just like boxing or MMA, some folks will risk it for money or love of the game etc.
Agreed. The big problem is the multi-decade cover-up. But that's typical of a large business, and that's the reason we need consumer and personal protection laws. I suspect the NFL is going to keep losing on the injuries, and eventually will e paying a lotta millions per year in long-term injury claims.
And BTW, I watched part of the Pro Bowl. Not bad if you like flag football. That game is primarily guys giving each other love taps to end the plays.
I watched the first two series. That was all I could stand.
I understand that nobody wants anybody to get hurt. But if they're not gonna' play some semblance of real football, I say just scrap the game altogether. They could still make All-Pro selections just for the honor and recognition. But the game itself is a farce, and virtually unwatchable.
That makes one of us...
I think there's a fundamental conflict of interest when the team has its own doctor making the final decision on players returning to action.
I can understand a medical staff to care for player injuries, but someone else should be making the call on when a player is medically cleared to return to game play.
