Man, that sucks, and absolutely no offense intended, but I can’t imagine feeling that strongly about any sort of sports team.
It's cool buddy, no offense taken at all.
I grew up around it so it was mostly normal to me most of my adult life. It was only just a few years ago when it completely sunk in that these teams and players don't give two craps about me along with the increased socially unacceptable athlete's behavior that I decided I really don't care like that anymore. It's why I can now appreciate a guy like Tom Brady, where before I hated him like yelling from the stands that's he's a bum.
I like football and I'll watch a game if nothing else is going on or in the background while I do other important tasks. I feel like I know a lot about the game, like you guys do, so can appreciate the athleticism and when it's played properly.
I just wish I came to that conclusion 15 years earlier and saved all those thousands of dollars and hours on game tickets, gear, travelling, etc.

Punching Tomlin, that has nothing to do with how I feel about the current state of the Steelers and totally about how it has affected my uncle. You mess with my family like that, you're getting one to the nose. :)

*I* certainly wouldn't want a boop on the snoot from you. Man Mountain AND smart? Yeah I'll walk my pansy ass over here thanks :)

The Steelers, The Eagles, The Lions, The Bears. They are teams that represent hard working, hard living and hard loving fans. The fans truly live and die with their teams. I respect that. Admire it, even.

This is why I don't watch sports anymore. I let a bunch of guys who wouldn't know me from Adam ruin a perfectly good weekend. I would be physically stressed during games. Even though there were a lot of years they were winning, that doesn't really make for enjoyment. I'm far healthier and happier now.

Hey....How are you?

I'm good! Gigging (more than ever), spending time with family, taking care of myself physically, and generally loving my life! (I always watch this thread, which is more football than I get in any week!)

I have been a member of the Tulsa Packer Backers for... let's see, EDIT: 29 years? Yeah. My wife and I met there and some of my best friends are members as well. Every year, we hold fundraisers for Toys for Tots and outraise major corporations in the area. This year, we gave over $22K in toys and have to date given over a quarter of a million dollars to the philanthropy. The guy interviewed in this clip, Mark, is a good guitar-playing buddy of mine. Merry Christmas!

^ This.

I still watch my share of sports, but I don't let the results affect me like it did in my younger days. Over these past few years, I realized that the elation I feel when my teams win is very short-lived. Sure, it feels good, but really doesn't influence my life to any measurable degree. But any losses would tick me off, the bad moods endured longer, and negatively affected my day. I'm slowly coming around to blowing off the losses and moving on with life. After a lifetime of being a die-hard fan of several sports, it's not an overnight transition. A work in progress.

I think the thing to remember is that these are games, right? Games?

There is whole lot, of course, that's wrapped up in sports that we really can't discuss here. Suffice it to say that I'm always flabbergasted by the money involved and the obsession with games. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy watching a game now and again, but jeebus. There are way more important things in life to get that het up about.

The way that both the NFL conducts it's business and the way that the Raiders have gone about doing their's within the last 25 years has finally and successfully for now cured my lifetime of being an NFL junkie. I just wish that transference wasn't a thing; I just took that NFL passion and put it into baseball. Now I have to pull back from that.

I think a looming player strike will help kill that jones after next season. Maybe after that I'll start practicing the dulcimer again

Edit: Strikethrough when reality and honesty with myself hit me.

I follow sports, but don't watch much. If that makes me a casual fan, then that's fine. This is why.

Exactly. I could never understand fans getting so emotionally invested in sports. The players, I get. But while I'm a fan of many teams, them losing or winning has no bearing on my state of mind. It's a freaking GAME, people.

I just had this thought pass my mind. With the way the Eagles have been playing, it's not impossible that Dallas could catch them and win the division. They split with them and are up a game in the division standings.
