He seemed like a nice kid. And he played a whale of a game!
He sure did. Agreed too that he seems like a nice kid.
I loved how it took 3-6 Patriots to tackle him and how he was falling forward when they finally did. The Patriots defense got the better of him a few times, but more often it was the other way around.
Defense wins championships and a bruiser with speed helps take the pressure of the QB. Darnold isn't going down in history of one of the greatest ever, but he doesn't have to be on that team. Why? Mike Macdonald is a smart man who knows how to build a team and coach them to their strengths.
It's just a bummer the Patriots didn't get a dose of Charbonnet smacking them in the mouth while Walker caught his breath. Maybe next year.

Snooze ya looz Rooney...
Now you'll have to see if Russell Wilson will come back, or snag Flacco so he can beat every team in the conference as a QB for every team in the conference.

And just like that, the Maxx Crosby trade is cancelled, due to a failed physical. That probably means the Raiders need to get moving on a new trade. They’re going to need his salary cap space.

The Steelers have picked up a few good players to fill obvious needs, Not a bad free agency, but no word yet about the elephant in the room.

Meanwhile Kenny Pickett is joining his fifth team in five years. How'd the Steelers let him get away?

Penix is rehabbing a knee and may not be ready for the preseason and maybe a few regular games. They got Tua for league minimum, which is a good deal for a good backup. Penix is still their guy.
I hope you're right.
Did you mention this to Tua so he doesn't think he's coming in there to be the Falcons #1 QB for years to come?

-Mike

Actually I think there are people that are. I've seen interviews on Dolphins insider type sites where he talks about pressure to retire. But he says things like "It's my life and I want to play".
I’d like you to be right, but the so-called pressure seems to be coming from the outside. Everyone around him, at least publicly, has encouraged him to ignore it, and keep playing.

nostalgia - my sister went to Pitt and we were so excited about James Conner getting drafted, and pretty curious about how Kenny Pickett would do

Rooney and Tomlin swung and missed on Conner because they thought Najee Harris was legit. Most folks know a typical Bama RB is mediocre at best, with a few outliers.
To their credit though, it's not all that often the Steelers make a mistake letting a guy go.

I was hoping you were right, but it's as I expected. I get it though, Penix is broken goods and I didn't think his NFL career would last as long as I hoped it would. I really like him.

If his injury is typical, Penix likely won't be in a position to compete for the starting spot, so yeah, they'll go with Tua. Tua is also damaged and one more serious concussion, the NFL may shut him down if he won't shut himself down.
