Yeah, that's about right. The Patriots have been around 56 years, so this success is recent in comparison.

I'm not sure what you consider the 'parity era', but I would assume since 2002 or so?
In general, good teams I think of are San Francisco, Green Bay, Dallas, Pittsburgh, Oakland.
New England is right up there and a great football team, I don't mean to insinuate otherwise, but they aren't legendary quite yet overall.
But I also understand there are Patriot fans who don't know much, or care much, about the NFL prior to 2000. So in their world, the Patriots are the best team ever.

Miami has 22 playoff appearances in 50 years, despite making it only once in the past 15. They made it 21 times between 1970 and 2001 (mostly under Shula, of course).

Dallas has had 7 winning seasons since 2000, and made the playoffs 5 times, They've lost in the first or second round every time,'
Oakland has had only 4 winning seasons since 2000, and only made the playoffs 3 times. The did make it to the Superbowl way back in 2002, but lost. I'm not sure what your measure of good teams are but those stick out to me as most definitely NOT good teams. Meanwhile, the Pats make it to the playoffs 13 times since 2000 winning the Lombardi trophy 4 times, and that's not legendary to you? The only team of your list I'd actually put in the same level as far as consistency is the Packers.
As far as not knowing about football before 2000, I remember (despite my best efforts) 1985. And I remember being the laughingstock of the league for ages. And while the Pats success is historically recent (when compared to the Steelers, Packers, et all), it's still impressive success.

It's unnatural, and comes down to one thing: Coaching, plain and simple.
I can't hate on Belichick and his staff too bad since I rooted for the guy when he was in Cleveland. Some of us recognized and appreciated his brilliance even back then.
But Josh McDaniels rubbed us the wrong way in Denver almost from Day 1.
"Rubbed the wrong way" is putting it nicely.
McDaniels is the perfect OC for the Hoodie, but as head coach he was a bust at the time.
He was pretty hated by Broncos fans across the country.
He may soon get another shot. Maybe he's matured since then.
I tried to forget his setback of the Broncos but Elway straightened things out.
Looks like Lynch gets his 2nd start tomorrow against the Jags.
Denver's D better control the game.
