NFL Week 16

This feels good. To see the good ol' Bears sweep the pack. This was the perfect Christmas present, a sweep and the NFC North Division. For so long we have been the ugly stepchild to the Pack and to get them twice is sweet redemption. :hyper:

I think they have a shot to go far with Rex at QB. They are a different team and it was good to see the ball go downfield.

I'm not sure the Bears will go very far this year in the playoffs. Anything's possible, though. If Grossman can stay healthy, they'll be the team to beat for the next few years. Trouble is, Grossman hasn't proven he can stay healthy. He sure has a much better presence than Orton did, but Orton filled in well and did what he had to do to win.

Changing of the guard taking place. It was a good run. Time to reload and start over.

Yea Grossman has the talent in him, but you can still tell he's a young player. And by the earlier remark I said, I was talking about the Ravens last week. I was happy that the Packers were able to make a game that went down to the last play, as little hope as there was. The 2005 Packers putting up a scrap against the number 1 defense in the league was an accomplishment in my eyes. Definitely wasn't the score of a game that had 4 INT's (1 run back for a touchdown), 2 missed field goals and a severely crippled offense, at least they played hard. Next on the agenda, I hope the Bears turn the Minnesota Vikings into a skid mark.

Grossman has talent no doubt, but he's made of styrofoam. He's been in the league what, 3 years?...and played about 3 games per year. IF he can stay healthy, he gives the Bores a better shot though. If Orton's under center, they have none.

yeah, i'd like to see that, as well.

...and what the eff is up with your avatar? i have a hard time reading your posts because i don't wanna look at it!

you are just scared by my rakishly good looks!!

but really, that's just one of my tricks...

Anyway, I still think the Colts won't make it all the way. I think Manning is the next Marino. Great QB, just somehow... lacks...

Of course I'm delighted that the Skins dominated the G-men. But it was all on the line for the Skins... I'm sure the G-men will beat Oakland this week to win the division, and even if they don't they can still make the playoffs.

I'm just bummed that the game had to happen on Xmas. I was out of town visiting family, when I could've actually been at FedEx field.... damn those family obligations. :p

For my money, I'd take the Redskins (though their postseason bid isn't a certain one yet) or the Panthers over anyone else in the division. I guess I'm pulling more for the Redskins simply because my guitar player is a fan of theirs.
As I mentioned in the Super Bowl thread, the Skins are playing as well as anybody else in the NFC, and Joe Gibbs has a history of doing well in December and in the playoffs.

Yes, this shows how weak the NFC is. The "On Any Given Sunday" rule always applies, but I don't know of anyone who expects the NFC to win it all this year.

Cowboys managed to pull one out Saturday.
We have a friendly football pool here at work. I picked the Cowboys, and wasn't even getting any points. I knew they'd bounce back.

If the Redskins that showed up the last 2 games show up again the playoffs, the NFC Championship game will be Seattle vs. Washington, and I will pick Washington.
I saw Washington beat Seattle in overtime earlier this year, but it was in Washington and Seattle helped by missing some field goals. A lot has changed since Week 3, but Brunell might not be ready to play the Iggles on Sunday (and it is the Iggles), so the playoffs aren't a given.

I'm pretty sure that's wrong. Pack is using their #3 back (Fisher), having lost #1 (Green), #2 (Davenport), and #4 Lee, then had to sign 2 guys this season from other teams prctice squads (Gado from KC now out for the rest of the season) and Heron from Steelers who is playing today.

Wide receivers: #1 Walker out first game. #2 Driver playing. #3 Ferguson played 2 games and is now out for the rest of the year, #4 Murphy injured 2nd game of the season and out rest of year. #5 Thurman playing and they had to sign Rod Gardner this year juist get to get back to 3 healthy 3 wide outs.

Starting TE: Franks out most of the year and out for rest of season.

Starting punter: out for rest of season.

Staring Center: Flanagan - out most of year - started today, but then out after having played only a couple series.

You want me to start with the defense?

Don't tell me more Bears starters are injured. That's just plain not true. I'll bet even your Bears' compatriots would admit that. Anyone who knows football will tell you injuries have played a huge role in the Packers downfall this year and have contributed to Favre's awful season. You've seen it today, no playmakers in the red zone for him to go to. But in addition to that, he's been just plain bad.

Anyway, like I said above. All in good fun. If you can't take it, so be it.

Well if I were 3-12 with no chance at the playoffs, sitting in the whirpool would seem much more attractive than freezing my a$$ off at Lambeau.

I'd also be sitting out some games to avoid injury. I mean I wouldn't want to get hurt and miss my chance to play for a winning team.

Winning teams have their share of injuries, it just seems that those players are more motivated to come back sooner or play a little banged up.

Well I'm outta town, and missed out on the chance to talk first smack to the Packer backers while the wounds were still fresh. But, my fellow fans of the NFC Norris champs put in their shots.

My thanks to Favre for 4 ints. A few games without a TD, and more INTs than TDs for the season. I think the coaching staff needs to break his shoulder or something. He plays better hurt it seems.

Thanks also go out to Longwell, for missing a couple.

And big big thanks to the Bears. My marriage has improved since I haven't been so grumpy on Sundays and Mondays.

I wondered where you'd been man! I figured you'd be on here about 3 minutes after the game was over celebrating. Myself, I was PISSED. NOT because of the outcome, but because my local Fox Station went belly up at the beginning of the 4th quarter and I didn't get to see the one quarter the Packers actually played! I sat in the garage and listened on the car radio.

There's some truth to that. But I don't think anyone would argue the Packers have been hit especially hard in key positions where the hottub ain't gonna fix it in a week.

Walker (ACL, MCL) pro bowler
Green (torn quad) pro bowler
Davenport (broken ankle)
Ferguson - questonable - hot tub might have helped
Franks - neck and spine - pro bowler
Murphy - neck
Flanagan - hernia

Really really question the guts and effort in the embarrassing Monday night game. heads should roll for that one for sure. That dweeb's comment above "now don't give me the injury crap" doesn't cut it. Not this year. I hate to make excuses and there's every possibility we'd suck without any injuries. But this is the worst year I can remember in a long time.

I was actually in Chicago for the holidays, and had to leave the game in the third quarter little early to spend some time with my family. I mean it was Christmas.....

But I did listen to the 4th Q on the radio while I was "lost" driving downtown with the family.

Anyway, outside of the game I hope you Packers fans had a Merry Christmas. Favre left 4 INTs under the tree for me. :D
