NFL Week #17

Due to the fact that the Saints still have a steak in winning, albeit a very unlikely one to count on St. Louis beating the 49ers in a game with meaning, the Saints will be playing to win.

This is a BAD THING for the Panthers, despite the OROY performance from Newton, their defense is poop on a cracker against the best offense in the NFL right now.

I reserve the right to amend this, if the Saints see that the Rams/49er game is out of reach for the Rams and they pull their starters in the 2nd half.

Besides, Brees needs to put up another 250-300 yards to secure his record, and against the passing defense of the Panthers, that is probably about 2 quarters of play...

Lions will be thrown to the Pack in the Lambeau Colliseum this Sunday.

The Packer O-line played superb Christmas day and didn't allow a sack to Aaron against the Bears front four. Packer D-line will be further strengthened with the return of Ryan Pickett. The Pack not playing for anything but I still feel a win coming. Packer offense too much for the Lions to stomp out. Starters will be rested in the second half.

neither team wants to win the division, so instead of a third OT, Coughlin will detonate a WMD and finally end the frustration for both teams, et al...

.... and then i woke-up!!! ;)

ps: Rodgers is great, but...
Brees is "THE MAN" and deserves the MVP hands down!!! how long did Marino's record stand???

pss: wouldn't it be funny if the Hood let Brady throw on every down just to eclipse the Brees shine?!!! he'd proably need 500yds, though!

Don't like the Packers but have to disagree with that. Yardage doesn't win games, just ask Dan. Points win games, Rodgers has 4 more TDs in the air than Brees and a few more on the ground. Interceptions lead directly to easy points for the other team and an extra opportunity to score at the very least. Those are the only ways a QB has a direct influence on the outcome of the game. Brees has more than twice as many picks compared to Rodgers. Brees throws a pick almost every single game, Rodgers throws 1 pick every 2-3 games. If you want to answer the question "who is more valuable?" start with which team won more games. Rodgers is MVP by a wide margin.

Marino was a better pure QB than Joe Montanta but Montana led his team to championships and Dan didn't, Montana was much more "valuable" to his team than Dan.

If passing yards won games, the Packers wouldn't be 14-1, they give up a ton of passing yards. Most of that is because Rodgers scored so many points they are up by 2-3 scores and the other teams have to pass to try to catch up.

Not to take anything away from Brees or his achievement, he broke a long standing record, held by the best pure passer the game has ever seen IMO.

Well, he'd need that AND Drew to sit for the entire game against the Pampers - which ain't happenin', since they're still in contention for the #2 seed if they win Sunday. ;)

Well said. It's going to be a 2 horse race for that award, but in the end, I think Rodgers will take it for the above-reasons. And, when they went head-to-head, Rodgers came out on top. Brees didn't break that record going away - he's got Brady right on his heels, or I think he'd have a stronger case. Still an awsome accomplishment though. Great year for many QBs - Brees, Rodgers, Stafford, Manning, even Brady, who with a monster game, could in fact break Brees' record! The old addage "defense wins championships" really is not appropo any longer with the high octane offenses we're seeing.

I'm a 1000% Saints homer, and even I think Rodgers should get the MVP for the season. Incredible year.

As for Brady catching Brees, not gonna happen, the Saints are still playing for the #2 seed (and yeah, I know it's unlikely that the Rams beat the 49ers, but the Saints have to play that way, just in case). That means they'll be playing the Pampers and their pathetic pass D to win - i.e., another 300+ yard game for Drew, unless the 49ers are just pounding the Rams into dust by halftime. If that happens, he's still gonna hang around 200 on the Pampers.

Back to the MVP, I'm not really bothered by Brees not getting that award this year. He didn't get it in '09 when he should have either, but y'know...I'd rather he get the same MVP he did in '09, and I'm bettin' he feels the same way.

By the hard & fast definition of MVP (Most Valuable Player), frankly, Peyton Manning SHOULD get that award going away - it's for the most valuable player to his team over a season, and it's pretty obvious that his not being on the field in Indy destroyed that team, thus making him by far the most valuable player to his team over the past season, by a commanding margin.

...however, of course, that will never happen.

Good point. I think New England is playing for home field, so I guess there's some chance of Brady surpassing Brees, but probably pretty small chance. Those will be fun games to watch, NO and SF games, and the Giants-Cowboys game as well. Of interest, but lesser is Denver-KC.

I'm fairly certain Brady won't pass Brees yardage, but I wouldn't be surprised if he passes the amount for the old record, IIRC he's close enough to it.

That's exactly my point, in Indys case, they spell team "tePeytonManningam", seriously, when you drop from one of the very best to one of the very worst with the removal of ONE guy, he's by far the most valuable guy you have. Hell, it could be considered to have changed the entire season this year.

Yeah, never happen, it's why I said wish, rather than hope. :hmm:

True, but I doubt you'll see a fusillade of passes from Brady, they are pretty much in the catbird seat in the AFC right now, it would take a minor miracle for them to NOT have the homefield. He will however almost certainly break the 5K mark.

Pretty amazing year for QB play this year - consider that the guy that broke a 27 year old record, and set several other pretty impressive ones (most 300 yard games, most consecutive 20+ completion games, only 6 games away from breaking a 50 year old record for consecutive games with a TD pass) is still not good enough to win the MVP award. :eek:

Very cool indeed, for fans of the game. :)
