Well Jim McMahon was never known as a durable QB, and he was the last QB to take us to the Superbowl.

Aside from injury, there have been plenty of late bloomers in terms of QBs.

Vinny Testeverde - sucked when he was with TB. Who would have ever thought he'd take any team to the playoffs back then?

Doug Flutie - the magic skin Flutie couldn't even hack it in the NFL until years after he was drafted by....the Bears.

Rich Gannon - floundered in MIN and KC for years until he found a home in OAK and took em to a Superbowl.

Stan Humphries - who the #$%! is he. Unlike any QB from Detroit he got to a superbowl in his later years after years as a nobody.

B.Roethlisberger pass to A.Randle El to NE 15 for 49 yards. FUMBLES, RECOVERED by NE-E.Wilson at NE 11.
E.Wilson to NE 11 for no gain (A.Randle El). Randle El attempted a lateral to Ward, resulting in the fumble.

The lateral, while I'm surprised Ward didn't catch it, was pretty ridiculous. El made a great run after the catch, and flipped the ball back, but there were so many Patriots around at that point that Ward would have gotten NO more yardage had he caught it. They should have been on the 11 yard line, instead it's a turnover. I managed to not break anything valuable, but I was infuriated.

Granted, plenty of late bloomers; Kurt Warner comes to mind....

But what about injury-prone guys, particularly those that were repeatedly banged up for years on end early on? Nobody comes to mind on this end.

My first job as a young man, aged 13, was selling cokes up and down the old sombrero when vinny t was qb for us. i spent many a day behind the bench hollering for them to put steve young in the game, and being called an idiot. little did i know....

I saw that play on the gamecast, but was never able to see it develop. Was it a designed play, or something he did at the last second?

If the the Bears took Leinart, he'd probably still bust. The Bears have some type of QB curse. They always seem to pass on a quality QB for some gamble. We passed on Culpepper for Cade McNown, we passed on Leftwich for Grossman, we traded our first rounder for Rick Mirer....

Yep, I was referring to paying Leinart and Grossman. I bet the Bores do get a bulk discount on midol and tampons as much as Rexies' ovaries always hurt!

Too bad da Bears passed on Leftwich. That kid is one tough cookie.

And as for Flutie...he had a very good CFL career. Six most outstanding player awards in eight years. And he wasn't drafted by the Bears, it was the LA Rams at the 285th pick. And before you go trashing the CFL, Warren Moon played in both CFL and NFL.

Anyways, I think Orton caught some sort of INT disease from Culpepper and Harrington. Hopefully he can be cured during the off week.

Ahhhh....OK. Those are the kinds of plays the fans always want to see. When they go bad though, those same fans dog out the poor guy who tried it. I heard the guys on ESPN Radio, and my local sports radio station taking a few shots at him for trying it.

It really was a silly play. The intended receiver (of the lateral) never saw it coming and it bounced off the side of his torso. I can't believe Randle El did that. But being a Pats fan I can't look a gift horse in the mouth. :)

Its a tough proposition, to pick up an NFL ready quarterback... The ONLY reason Carson Palmer is working out as well as he is, is Jon Kitna... Kitna played Palmers first season w/ the Bengals, so he could just learn. Then, last season when Carson got the nod, Kitna was MORE than wiling to play mentor to the rookie Palmer...

It's been amazing to see the Bengals management actually do something right.
