NFL Week 4

Another difference between Favre and Warner is that when Warner gets a thumb injury he fumbles the ball more, loses accuracy, and drops in velocity. And that's after it's been "healed"

Favre had one of his best seasons playing with a broken thumb.

Time to hit the shower again.

you're killin' me Jive.

Amazing what a good Bears team does to your sensibilites, doesn't it?

Ooh, now I need a shower.

Besides, as a Bears fan, can't you relate to what it takes to find a good QB? You guys haven't had one in decades despite a lot of early first round picks over the last 15 years.

Heh. True enough. Although, there for a while, the Bears seemed determined to draft every flakey running back in the country. (Curtis Enis, anyone?)

Look at the stats through 4 games this year, though, and they're pretty much the same guy.

Forget the stats, look at the game on the field... Warner looked lost through the last 3 games. Favre, while struggling at times, still looks like he belongs behind center...

On a side note, I really dislike the baseball like obsession with stats that's creeping into the game. Football is about playing with passion as a collective and working as a team, baseball is mostly a duel between two players again and again and again... I just think so many stats are so misleading in football. You can see with your own eyes over 60 minutes who the best teams are, watch who wins at the point of attack, see which skill position players come up with the big plays at the right time, the big sack, the big pick, the big catch... that's what the game is about... I guess this is why I don't play fantasy football. Okay, rant over :smug:

Right on!

There is only one stat worth a damn...

Hmmm.

Y'know, you're probably right. I'm a baseball fan first and foremost - imo it's absolutely the best sport there is. So, yeah .... guilty.

I had to post this gem by George Carlin

Baseball is a nineteenth-century pastoral game.
Football is a twentieth-century technological struggle.

Baseball is played on a diamond, in a park. The baseball park!
Football is played on a GRIDIRON, in a STADIUM, sometimes called SOLDIER FIELD or WAR MEMORIAL STADIUM.

Baseball begins in the spring, the season of new life.
Football begins in the fall, when everything is dying.

In football you wear a helmet
In baseball you wear a cap.

Football is concerned with downs. "What down is it?
Baseball is concerned with ups. "Who's up? Are you up? I'm not up! He's up!"

In football you recieve a penalty.
In baseball you make an error.

In football the specialist comes in to kick.
In baseball the specialist comes in to relieve somebody.

Football has hitting, clipping, spearing, piling on, personal fouls, late hitting, and unnecessary roughness.
Baseball has the sacrifice.

Football is played in any kind of weather: Rain, snow, sleet, hail, fog...can't see the game, don't know if there is a game going on; mud on the field...can't read the uniforms, can't read the yard markers, the struggle will continue!
In baseball if it rains, we don't go out to play. "I can't go out! It's raining out!"

Baseball has the seventh-inning stretch.
Football has the two-minute warning

Baseball has no time limit: "We don't know when it's gonna end!"
Football is rigidly timed, and it will end "even if we have to go to sudden death."

In baseball, during the game, in the stands, there's kind of a picnic feeling. Emotions may run high or low, but there's not that much unpleasantness.
In football, during the game in the stands, you can be sure that at least twenty-seven times you were perfectly capable of taking the life of a fellow human being

In football, the object is for the quarterback, otherwise known as the field general, to be on target with his aerial assault, riddling the defense by hitting his recievers with deadly accuracy in spite of the blitz, even if he has to use the shotgun. With short bullet passes and long bombs, he marches his troops into enemy territory, balancing this aerial assault with a sustained ground attack that punches holes in the forward wall of the enemy's defensive line.
In baseball the object is to go home! And to be safe! "I hope I'll be safe at home!"

I heard Carlin do that bit live about 20 years ago. Priceless. Thanks, Jive.

That's what I did too. I read everything with his vocal inflections the way I remembered it. Carlin is one of my favorite comedians of all time. Truly intelligent humor.

I agree. It's not just what he says, but the way he says it...along with his facial expressions.

His humor really makes one laugh and think hard about life at the same time.
