1) Lack of depth. They bassically got Bedard plus a relatively few decent players. The majority of the team is substandard.

2) Lack of coaching. The skills the players do have is being wasted, not developed. This is evidenced by a clear lack of fundamental team skills. It's the coach's job to take individual players and craft them into a cohesive team. When that's lacking, it's almost always a coaching failure.


This is a very bad place to be in as a team. If you have decent players that aren't performing, you can fix that by getting a different coach. If you have proper coaching, you can improve by trading for more appropriate players.

Both failures together is death.

Scott Laughton, who has been nearly invisible this year from a goal-scoring perspective, scored all 4 goals in a 4-1 Flyers win over the Red Wings. He's a grinder, but somehow always plays well against Detroit.

Kudos to him AND Garnet Hathaway on the 4th goal. They broke in 2 on 0 toward the open net with about 14 seconds left. Laughton passed it over to Hathaway to give him the goal; but Hathaway was having none of that. He promptly passed it right back to Laughton basically saying, "This is YOUR night! You take it!"

Well well well .... nice win against Pittsburgh
Both goalers were amazing

Sens are going for a 10 game road trip because of world juniors , if they could keep a .500 on that trip , it would make the season ending interesting for them

Blackhawks second 2-game win streak of the season!

And in perhaps the most drama-filled game, the movable object met the resistible force and the Preds got the win against the Rangers, which also keeps pace with the Blackhawks for the leaset points. I see Preds play Sabres in early February... hopefully one or both will turn things around by then.

Pens win in OT against the Kings, seeing them reach .500 for the first time in like forever. Their current run of 7-2-1 now have them in fourth place in the Metro division, and only one point out of the 2nd wild card slot.

Yeah, small potatoes, I know. But considering how poorly they've played at times this season it's the first glimmer of hope we've had in a while. Who'd have ever thunk .500 and NOT being in 7th or 8th place would be considered something to get excited over? :sour:

Beating the Kings has become a chore this year. Extra stingy defense has them at the lowest shots allowed average per game.

Last month , got rid of my hockey subscription , both my team were horrible.
With the current 5 win streak of the Sens , it's tempting to get back on board.
Been burned so many times in the last +-10 years , confidence is not on top for me

It sure looks good this month !

Wouldn't that be funny if the Sens won the cup before the Leafs ?
