Nice Fender - No Serial? (Or am I dumb?)

So I stumbled on this bass on a local website. Good price, looks nice, but no serial number on the front or back of headstock, on the neck plate or anywhere else I can think to look. I know there may be info on butt of the neck, but was hoping for some info just based on pics for now.

Am i just ignorant of this model, or is this a parts bass?

There are very few reasons to remove a serial number. None of them good. Also illegal.
No Serial Number = No Sale

My first thought is a Squier neck with the water slides changed.

What are they calling this and how many stamps do they want you to put down?

It seems there are those who will buy ANYTHING that looks like a Fender.
Anything from a $65.00 DIY kit to the very first P or J bass made to something made in Moldova.

So why wouldn't someone buy this?

Looks like some type of 70's Jazz Bass reissue, but most likely it was frankensteined together by the seller.
Ask the seller if the serial number has been intentionally blurred or hidden, or if it's missing altogether.

No number = no sale.

It may be a Fender body with replacement neck. May be stolen. It's kinda hard to say from a few Pics. It's gotta be taken apart........

I'm guessing the headstock was sanded and a fender water slide added. I'm about 99% sure of this. Neck looks to be Squier or aftermarket.

Looks like the neck from a Squier VM77 Jazz. It's not a Fender

That is a Squier VM 77 Jazz Bass with a Fender decal, aftermarket pickguard , pickup covers and JB knobs.

As others have noted, it most definitely looks like a Squier VM'77 neck with a fender decal. Originally looked like this.

If they are touting it as a Fender, as in USA or MIM or MIJ Fender, it's likely a scam.

That being said, if it plays and sounds as good as it looks for a few hundred bucks I'd be all over it....especially if it's advertised as a parts or modded bass. Even if they only have a couple hundred in the bass, there's another hundred easy in the aftermarket parts.

Also, it's not a good idea to leave this crowd an opening such as "Am I dumb"?

A dead giveaway as to why it's not a 70's fender or reissue is that the pickups are in 60's and post 79 position. Notice how you can see the bridge pickup with the cover on?

It’s listed as a Fender Jazz Bass in the ad; asking price in the mid-300’s.

I’ll ask Seller about it and see what they have to say about s/n.
I’ll heed the advice & not touch it; I def don’t need it, and was kind of more curious if there were some models w/ hidden s/n’s, or if my instinct was correct.
I have heard good things about those Squiers; if the price was a bit lower I’d think about it, but w/ no s/n I’ll stay away out of principal!

No serial number, pickup poking out from behind the cover, pearly white guard. The headstock shape seems a little off, too. Nah.
