Nice looking 5 string bass for build ?!?

So my school has a guitar building class and I am planning on building a bass. It is not my first build so I want to try something a little more time consuming.

I am wanting to do a Neck thru fretless five string bass but I have no idea what woods to use or what shape or style. I want to have some exotic woods in it but I need to figure out what shape and the pickup layouts.

Any advice would help and with pictures would be nice aswell.

What other basses do you find comfortable to play and what do you want this one to sound like?

Those answers should give you an idea of the right shape, woods and pickup location.
