Wait one second, im gonna blow my top if one more person says...
"motley crues music is really basic and simple, so he must be just a basic and simple bassist."
Ill expect he, like ALOT of other bassists, does play stuff other than his own bands material in his own home. Whos to say (that when hes not with motley) he isnt a really really really highly skilled bassist? Whos to say he isnt skilled in even a different genre?
OkOk, probably not, but what i mean is that sometimes people just play what is needed for the band. They feel no need to show off their talent (However much they have) if they feel that what theyre doing fits. The fact is you never know how good anyone like this really is until you meet them, and actually ask them out-right to astound you with some skill.
I know for sure i play nowhere near as technically or as challengingly as i could do in my punk band, i feel no need. It doesnt suit the music and itd make me feel stupid to bang out twiddly riffs just to astound some other bassist ive never met. When i get home i play chilis, james brown and jamiroquai as much as possible. In soundchecks i bang some of this stuff out and people are like "whoah, you can actually do that?" not because im very good at it (im still working on that bit
) but because they didnt expect it, they see a punk bassist banging out octaves and they expect nothing more.
back to nikki
Just remember he may not be playing to make you think...."ooooo, hes good" but playing to make you think "ooooooo, that sounds good". Alot of the time people get these two confused.
sorry, this isnt a rant. just spreading my word...lol
