I have been on a mission, to try every small bass on the planet. ;)

When I had that bass, I thought it was a nice build. I had the a light silvery white finish that was very nice.
Thought the neck was nice, etc. Solid build. The one negative I noticed on mine was - the tuners. They seemed a little lower end than, say, what is on the Mikro, and, mine were very stiff. Usable and functional, but very stiff. I don't know if those were just the tuners on mine, or the tuners on the bass in general. How do the tuners feel to you?

Honestly, the polar opposite. Mine stays in tune. But the tuners feel almost too loose to me. My setup guy apparently lubes tuners when he does a setup. And I didn't spend a ton if time with the bass before dropping it off with him. So mine may have been stiff out of the box and he could have resolved the issue.

The Ellefson has a slight dive, more due to the odd shape and lack of an upper horn strap button location.
Now I'm gassing for one of those cool little Jacksons, thanks Twofer, thanks a lot.

It's a wonderful thing to see kids picking up instruments, to make magical moments, which will stay with them for a lifetime. On the subject of short scale bass guitars, I have a student who needed a short scale, so we drove down to Guitar Center in San Francisco, CA to find one. With encouragement, I instructed my student to try everything in the store that would fit the required need. After a time, we narrowed things down, and ended up selecting the Gretsch Guitars G2220 Junior Jet Bass II Short-Scale Bass in Walnut Stain. For $299.99 plus tax this is a pretty good bass guitar for a beginner, and beyond. I gave the bass a good ripping, and found this bass to be solid, with plenty of balls, but more important my student loves it, and continues playing. Bottom line, no matter what you pick, select a bass guitar that inspirers you to play.

Oh, how I dig that little bass! That color of green reminds me so much of the 80s. I can see a young Steve Vai rocking out on something that color in my mind's eye. Good job, Dad. And I would definitely get the purple; purely in the interest of keeping the peace, mind you.
