NND: New neck day! (GAS content, Fender content)

I swore I was done with GAS, but I just couldn’t get away this time. I found myself a 2001 Fender Jazz neck to put on my parts bass.

Put it on last night, and this thing is a beauty! Gave it a very light fret end file, and bolted it onto my Squier Affinity body. I didn’t even have to turn the truss rod, and action/ intonation adjustments were minimal. This thing plays like a dream, I can barely put it down.

There’s a little gap in the neck pocket, maybe 1.5 or 2 mm, but the neck is on rock solid. I’ve read several threads on this, seems like it’s not a big issue.

I wanted to believe I could live with my cheap parts bass, but couldn’t stop thinking about a “proper” Fender bass neck. I guess this was the only way to find out for sure, and I’m so glad I got it!

I also ordered myself a Tonerider pickup to complete the overhaul (pickup being the last component of the Squier to be “upgraded.”) But honestly I don’t even know if I’ll put it in, at least not anytime soon. My bass is playing and sounding great; I’m loving it in its current state, and don’t want to lose any more play time.

Very nice! The neck pocket gap is no big deal if it's stable, if anyone asks, say you were aiming for a 70s Fender vibe

I've used thin strips of maple veneer glued to the inside walls of the neck pocket to fix that from an aesthetic point of view before if it starts to bother you for any reason.

I’ll be monitoring things as it settles, but so far looks good, feels good! I just can’t see taking it off just to glue in a little cosmetic fill.

I’ve read through probably all the “fender neck + Squier body” threads, since this has been an idea of mine for a while. So I was totally prepared this was a possibility

No, never did! As it sat in the parts drawer, I ran my bass through several amps and it sounded great through every one of em. I was still within the return window, so I just sent it back.

Neck is still going strong and this remains my favorite bass!
