No Chrome covered J pickups???

I've never seen separate covers, but Warwick have some blingadicious pickups courtesy of MEC

to my ears, the alumatones and the transsensors are bassically interchangeable, tone-wise.

The only reason I haven't switched to alumitones is that I'm perfectly happy with the sound of my barts.
It would only be for a cosmetic change.

But the transsensor I have is in my single pickup jazz bass build.
I needed a noiseless neck pickup and i saw some of those eBay for 5 bucks.
The guy who listed it was making a big deal about the ohm reading on them.
I got the impression he was thinking they were defective because of this.

So after a brief search I found out thats how they were supposed to be
So I bought it for cheap and holy cow. That's the sweetest sounding J I've heard.

By telling me the alumitones are similar if not equal for sure you just ramped up my GAS.

i prefer single-coil barts myself...but the chrome alumatones are nice because they have 'soft' edges that make great thumbrests. the other alumatones have a 'sharp' edge, not so good for thumbrests. for me lace sensors have that 'what a fender should sound like' vibe going on.

another plus for me: the alumatones are very lightweight.

Nope. I never "bashed the customer". I simply get tired of customers acting as though major corporations are tone deaf because they don't do the things you like. Which major corporation have you run lately?

And, again, Gibson may be making a mistake with their bridge. Who knows? But they aren't stupid. If they could turn a profit by putting Babicz bridges and Duncan pickups and Hipshot ultralight tubers on everything they sell, it would already be so.

As for "tested" ideas, how exactly does Fender "test" to see if you are going great to buy a Dimension bass?

As far asking their customers, the funniest thread ever would be a Fender exec coming here and asking "Hey, what do you guys really want in a bass?" There would be blood everywhere. I would take two days off from work to sit at my computer and read that action in real time.

As for "shooting themselves in the foot", the members of the board of directors are still making a gazillion dollars a year, right? Then who did they shoot again? Sure, not every idea is a good one. And the mistakes come off their bottom line. But did they really get where they are being stupid? Really? Stupid? Because they don't run a company like you would?

I can assure you that I don't have much of a following. No customers are acting as though major corporations are tone deaf because they don't do the things I like. Go ahead, call the major corporations and ask them if ThePresident777's minions have got them down in the dumps. Record it. I'd expect something that starts to sound like the Jerky Boys and quickly turns into an apollogy, hurried back pedaling, and ends in an abrupt click.

Funny you should bring up Hipshot Ultralights. Ibanez has them on some of their bases as well as Nordstrand pickups. They're priced accordingly. Schecter has Hipshot on some of their products. Some manufactures include Seymour Duncan pickups, not just the designed by stuff. EMG...................etc.

The dimension bass has two differences: body, pickups. Here is how to go about this. Come up with a cool pick guard you can retro fit on your P or J bass that covers the bridge pickup. It's cheaper than a whole new bass. Once that is a known seller, put the new pickups in a bass known to sell. If people do not like the new pickups, they can just go back to their fav pickups and cover the hole with the pickguard loaded with the pickups they prefer. But that would require Fender being serious about all that hotrod hype they like to exploit.

Once they have the pickups sorted out. They can put popular pickups, popular bridge, and popular neck on a new body. Less risky that way. If you don't like the body, put the pups and neck on a body you like. It would actually work out with their usual sales pitch, something about classic and hotrod. Classic Fender bridge, pups, neck on a new [insert sales pitch] body.

Yes, Gibson and Fender have a lot of money to waste, your point? That they are beyond criticism because of it?

The time I had it done it was a perfect chrome finish.

Hey Matt,
Was it pricey for a few small parts?
I’ve got a few plastic parts for a motorcycle restoration I was thinking about.
Did you have to do much prep?
Will they accept a fine bead blasting finish with glass or walnut shells?
TIA

That's still paint and not a chrome plating. Actual chromed metal is akin to gold plating. As far as I can tell the OP desires actual plated metal covers as is sometimes found on guitar humbuckers and the odd other pickup here and there.
It doesn't sound like a bad idea, neither does the idea for a vinyl cover over plastic. My concern would be durability of the finish over time..

That is a sexy pickup, and I don't use the word sexy very often.
