No GAS These Days: Considering Counseling.

I love the classic Precision (Fender) look & I browse ads constantly as well as amp stuff. I am down to the Precision V and the Dimension Deluxe 5 and I love them both.

The guys in the band are leaning towards in-ears & I am somewhat curious about a portable cabinet that I cannot wreck BUT, bass shopping & looking is kinda dull.

IF I could score something nice & classic, I'd just flip it 'cause I don't like having expensive things I don't play.

There are always basses I would love to own, but I have three basses I like:

- my '75 jazz I recently restored - I've owned it for 32 years after buying it used
- my Lull P4 - owned for 14 years
- my '51 P build I did last year.

If I never get another bass, I'll be more than satisfied.

Just wait until in ears happen. You will go down a gas spiral trying to find a good tone. Many dollars will be spent.

I'm in the same boat. Although I've been on the vintage train for the last 5 years, or so...

The only real GAS I have is for a (mostly) original 50's Precision for a steal, perhaps a refin. But those hardly ever turn up anymore.

I'm there too! Granted there are basses out there that would be nice to have, but there's nothing that has me frothing at the mouth. What does have me GASSING at the moment are rack mount bass preamps!

As someone who recently acquired a bass that is basically a less expensive version of my "dream" bass (which was a MM Stingray 4 stealth HH) I will say that looking at gear in terms of what sound you're after makes it much easier to not want to buy every nice bass I see/touch/hear/play. While I look at basses all day and can appreciate the different designs, woods, finishes etc. I never feel like I want to buy them. Instead I just spend a lot of time tweaking and fine tuning the sound I want from the gear I have, and when I've exhausted every setting and knob turn, only then do I start looking at other pedals, amps etc. Just my 2c.

The only gas I've had for about the last years is from when I eat a lot of beans. Doesn't seem to make my wife any happier than the other type.
