No Gibson's??

Yeah, I have always had beefs with Gibson for my own reasons - mainly over their basic refusal to provide any medium scalers. I heard they did have a flying V bass or something in medium scale once, but I have never seen or played one.

Even their custom shop is a joke as far as basses go. But for some reason, I have always loved and been attracted to the Les Paul Basses and the iconic early Les Paul Junior and violin basses. I also cut my teeth on an SG type EB-0 as a young player. I just can't get over it - until I play one. They were either too short or too long - they never fit me properly. Plus - they were definitely on the heavy side and generally too dark sounding. But I still like that thump and the Les Paul is a classy conventional design that has stood the test of time and still shines.

So, in the end I am designing and having my own Les Paul bass built in medium scale.

Here's a pic with my Gibson EB (2013). The pics I posted earlier in this thread made it look more yellow than it really is. This one makes it look more bright white than it really is. It' actually an off-white, cream color.

By the way, anybody looking for one of these EB's, check Musician's Friend. They have the 2013's (like mine above). The Cream color is $999.00; the Black is $799.00; and the Natural or Fireburst is $699.00. At $699.00 for a U.S. made bass, that's a pretty good value. The case alone is probably worth $150.00 (black tolex with plush white interior).

also just played one of those 50th birds a few weeks ago but the midtown won out!
BearCave, nice ES, thought about the other Les Paul but again the midtown won out, couldn't afford the Beautiful ES
and those EB basses at those prices with a hardshell case sound really nice

And if you're left-handed (as the OP appears to be), you can pretty much forget Gibson.

This is my only complaint about Gibson basses; although, like Bklynken, I was lucky enough to snag a '13 lefty T-Bird (after much searching). And, other than having to lightly touch 2 fret ends with a file, it is utterly flawless. And not the least bit muddy. Does have the requisite T-Bird neck dive, but it's nothing like my Kramer 450B lumie. As for the other Gibson bass models, I of course can't offer an informed opinion (no leftys), although the few rightys I've managed to get my hands on seemed pretty nice. I don't think they were nice enough to justify the new prices, though. I have to agree that Gibson, for whatever reasons, and excepting the EBs and T-Birds, just has not been synonymous with "Bass" like Fender is. But then, neither has Gretsch; and they make some wonderful basses. I know; I have one-a Broadkaster. And if you think finding a lefty Gibson bass is hard, try finding a lefty Gretsch ....
