No Helix Users' Thread?

I recently picked up a Helix LT and am happy with it so far, but there is definitely a learning curve, and I expect it will take a lot of experimentation to get the most out of it. Searching around on TB I expected there to be a general thread on the Helix line collecting tips and tricks, but I only see individual one-off threads. Is there any interest in a general user thread?

Yeah, I feel like I'm just going to have to learn a little bit of it at a time.

Most interesting trick I've seen so far is splitting the signal into one dirty, one clean, and using frequency cutoffs to have the higher freq stuff go through effects, and blending back in the clean lower end.

Every bass patch I use on my Helix does this parallel processing method. It makes it sit in the mix really well and the bottom doesn't drop out when you kick in effects. I path DI with just a bit of compression and EQ, one path with the amp and cab/IR blocks plus any effects, blended back together before the output.

We should use the TB wiki to share patches.

If you're using a commercial patch/IR you can't share, a screen shot of the block layout can still be educational. Stuff like @DanGroove just mentioned is too valuable to bury in a thread.

@InNoRush yep, no real dedicated thread(s).
I'd been through the BassPODXTLive(2006) > HD500X > Helix(a couple of years back).
UNLESS you directly buy patches or download them, a lot of time is spent searching internet/youtube/etc., and a lot more time is spent tweaking YOUR final patches to your ears (and your speakers/amp's liking).

My experience with the HX Stomp is that the instrument going into it has such a huge impact on the amp models sound, that I just make individual presets for each bass I own. My Warwick presets sound awful if I try to use them with my P bass or Music Man. I've certainly learned a lot about building my own tones from the HX Stomp thread though.

Stomp is probably the right amount of functionality for bass players which is why there’s way more content talking about the stomp.

I own an LT myself and it’s brilliant.
Link Removed and the associated Facebook group are gold too - I found his settings for each bass amp incredibly helpful as a start point.

I originally purchased the stomp and loved it, I started experimenting with routing and multiple amps and end up running out of DSP. I bought the floor and it is just incredible, the amount of presents and combinations you can do with the big brother is just amazing.

I also play guitar so it serves me way better than the stomp, love both units but the big brother has much more power and options it is just great.

I ended up grabbing the Helix rack. I also play a little bit of guitar but i often use parallel processing so new i would quickly row frustrated with just the stomp. I use compression on the low end and also after i blend the 2 signals to help glue it together into one sound again.

For those that like me prefer a more modern full range sound I have started using the minotaur on low gain in the upper frequency path to add some harmonic shine which I was missing previously. Am quite happy with my tone now but I keep tweaking it and trying different things.

I'm frankly a bit overwhelmed with mine so far. I have no idea how to make a preset on the hardware; I did figure out how to do it with the software.

I do wish they had IOS support so I could use my Ipad; especially since the newer Ipads are USB C; seems like a no-brainer idea to me. I struggled between a Helix LT and the boss equivalent specifically because the Boss has IOS support.

I am happy that the sounds I have been able to create have sounded good to my ears. I plan to use mine for electric guitar, bass, and acoustic; primarily in a worship band setting. My basic electric guitar path is the Roland Jazz amp for cleans, the Timmey overdrive, a basic tap tempo delay and a basic reverb. Sounds good so far and gives a convincing worship music tone.

I am a recent convert to bass from guitar and have been using a HX Stomp. I would like to get some sort of amplification (mostly for home other than headphones). Would you recommend, a frfr powered speaker like a qsc or Electro Voice or would you go with a bass amp and put the HX though an effects loop to go around the preamp. I have no idea if that would work or sound good but I read that it is an option. Any recommendations would be appreciated.

I love my Helix LT. Definitely a big learning curve, but you can get some great sounds out of it. It helps to approach it from a mixing board or DAW perspective, versus a traditional amp perspective (if that makes any sense).
Sold my pedals a year ago and went the HX Stomp route and a year later (last week) I got the LT. I'd say it's quite easy to get a decent bass sound right out of the box and adjusting it to fit your needs is not that hard if you're using HX Edit on your computer. I found it to be VERY flexible getting the exact tone you're looking for especially with parallel routing.

I have the HX Effects for my guitar rig in my home studio and Helix Rack for my bass rig in the rehearsal space. I plan on using a poweramp to power my 810e cab and start building a cab collection for any eventuality.

Coming from analog pedals and an SVT-CL (never parting with it) the Rack really suits my needs well. I do use my Supercollider, a Microcosm and a 10 band in different effects loop.

The parallel paths are a game changer. Fuzz on path 1a/1b with the Darkglass 7k effects model. Microcosm and a dual octave up model for higher harmonic content on path 2A/2B

The amp models are great. I like the SVT4 Pro model. Cab emulations not so much. I way more enthused with the Celestion Pulse 10 and Pulse 15 IRs instead.

I posted this in a different thread.
