No Jazz Bass

I like the way my Rebop sounds. If I changed the pickups, it would be to EMG DC40s.

To each his own. Gear choice is just so subjective. For me though, I'll always have a Jazz in my collection.

All I play is 3 jazzes. It's the tone and comfort. I don't need any other types of basses because a jazz bass is versatile enough for both bands I'm in, which are an Alice in Chains cover band, and a classic rock/pop band. I'm not opposed to other tones, but just don't have the finances or room for other basses.
I have never really paid the Jazz bass any mind - had myself convinced that all I need is a Precision.
Then, the other night, I watched and listened to this dude play a Jazz through an SVT and a 4x10 and I was blown away. Completely.

I went through 30+ basses before I figured out I am a P player. I couldn't get happy with any J (I've got a beautiful '66J I can't get into the tone and haven't gigged with it since the 90s). Soapbar PUPS are ok but give me a P any day!
I think everything about my playing over the last thirty years has favored bright and hi-fi tones. I tend to favor that whether I have a Jazz or not. A true P5 would be a big change for me.

Maybe. I remember years ago when I only had one bass and no job, I played Jaco stuff on that bass, Bernard Edwards stuff, Stanley Clarke, whatever on a single pickup Rickenbacker.
I don't know if I'll ever be like that again, but it would be nice to get close to that mindset.

He also used flats and had the mute on his Ric turned all the way up. I remember setting up my bass like Leon Sylvers because I loved him so much, but I couldn't stand flatwounds anymore, and the tone of the mutes drove me crazy! it just let me know that I had reached a point where I had my own identity.

That's a beauty (white/maple). It's the only color combo I like as well as my black/maple. Oops, blizzard/maple, still great although I would do tort, but that's just me.
I'd be lost without a Jazz bass! Have yet to find another bass that gives me that growl! I'm about to let my Lakland 55-01 go for a 5 string Jazz bass (Lakland or Fender). I'm tired of fighting to find my sound on that bass no matter how great it plays and feels.
I'm a P-bass guy, but I will always have a Jazz Bass in my collection... mainly because I keep seeing bands that use Jazz Basses and sound awesome, and I get jealous.
Then I take the Jazz out of the closet and bring it to practice and remember it doesn't work for me and put it back away for a while.
It is cheaper to use the same Jazz Bass for this than to buy one, then sell it (and repeat every few years.)

The very first bass I ever had was a really inexpensive Korean Jazz copy with a tree trunk neck. Eventually I modded it with a DiMarzio P-pup and a Gibson EBO pickup that I never used.
I am a Jazz guy through and through but for the first time in a long time I am without one. I have four Rics, two P's, to vintage Yamaha's and a vintage Ibanez. I really want a passive US Jazz with rounds.... but I really can get buy with my Rics, P and Yamaha BB5000. But none of them can do what a good 4 string Jazz does.
Are you downsizing to a home that is one square foot smaller? Unless you are running out of space I can't think of a reason not to keep a Jazz. The A in GAS stands for acquisition. It really should stand for accumulation.
