No love for Esparanza at the Oscars?

Her voice is a great instrument just like her basses. I compare it to Will Lee getting a gig to sing jingles or backup. I know Sting and Larry Graham have had vocal only gigs too. I imagine all of them don't mind leaving the bass at home sometimes!;)

So why no love? This was the only part of the show I watched, she was amazing and gets all my love for such a wonderful job:) And let's face it this must be one of the hardest gigs a preformer can do, Singing a memoriam for fellow friends and colluges. MAn that has to be tough. I still have the utmpst respect for Jennifer Hudson, her and Huston were great friends, I don't know how she got through without breaking down. She almost lost it a couple of times. So please Let's not say no love for these preformers, say all my love and admoration

And what about they band playing "stratus" (billy Cobham) when going into a break?
I thought it was great to use such bass-busy piece of music in Oscars night.
Completely unexpected for me.

Esperanza is someone new to me,and I want to hear more of her,specially when she sings like she did last nite.

I guess I'm wondering what you wanted her to do other than sing - and play bass. :confused:

It was the Oscars not the Grammy's. I thought it was awesome that she was there singing, a real singer, not some pop crap. :hiding:

On the iTunes-only Oscars record released last night, called "Celebrate the Music - The 84th Academy Awards", you can hear my Pedulla being played by Ms Spalding on the track "Sunrise On Bleecker Street". She was at our studio last week recording and needed to borrow a fretless. The engineer on the session knew I had one. Probably not her bag—she seems to like fretless J-basses—but she was gracious enough to put up with it, and she (and it) sounded great!

I was zipping through the show via DVR, and I'm so glad I caught that. She did indeed do a great job--so much talent, I'm glad to see her getting more exposure.:)

Erm, I wasn't suggesting I didn't love the performance, nor that I was somehow disappointed she didn't play bass. I was merely surprised that, nearly an hour after she performed, nobody else on TB had acknowledged it, since she's something of a fan favorite here.
