no more carpeted cabs?

I should let the pics do the talking.

I wonder how difficult and practical it would be cover a cab with real full grain leather.

Some combination of glue and/or rivets? Bet it would look (and smell) fantastic, although you’d have to be of the mindset that scuffs = character.

Totally possible. We do this regularly in the custom shop. With enough care and labor, they can look awesome but really do need to be transported in a road case or with heavy covers IMO. It's also not cheap.

See the bottom of the page for examples of leather coverings available. I believe I have seen some other manufacturers who offer leather, I think Fender did (at least at some point in time) through their custom shop.

Ive noticed I don't see any new cabs with carpeted exteriors. I thing they are tougher than the vinyle covering and I like the look better
Rat fur! Good riddance. I also don't like Tolex (or imitations). I like what Genz Benz did with my Shuttle cabs. and many others are doing too ... a hard wearing plasticized paint of some sort. Wears like iron, doesn't collect crap like rat fur, nor tear with the slightest bump like Tolex.

Duratex is the stuff for sure. Basically all good pro audio gear uses it.

I don't know of any musical instrument cab manufacturer other than Avatar that actually uses a "bed liner" product as that stuff always looks and feels cheap.
Duratex/bedliner...not the same but similar...even bedliner preferred to Rat fur.
Plywood colored with Sharpies® would be better than rat fur

Been using Eden Cabs for years. Still looking great. Since smoking in bars was outlawed, the cabs don’t smell. I still contend they age better than vinyl or other cab coverings. I will say it’s a bit of a dated look, but on the other hand, they sound great!

Actually VERY few pro audio companies use Duratex, it's nowhere near as durable as the 2 part catalyzed polymers (real truck bed liner is in this family).

Hold on a minute, the Shuttles use a high grade vinyl ("Tolex") material. There are many different grades available, generally the cost increases with durability.
