no more carpeted cabs?

Many of you seem to be forgetting a massive point about rat fur. It makes for a much more solid and gripping surface for your drinks, where as they will slide off with that plastic garbage. :beaver:
Very true. Detractable, Porsche-type cupholders are required on the smooth cabs.( To avoid breakage during transport):)

Ive noticed I don't see any new cabs with carpeted exteriors. I thing they are tougher than the vinyle covering and I like the look better
You can get either the carpeting that's standard with DNA, or they can give it a painted finish with a sort of spray on protective coating. That painted finish instead of the "rat fur" is an extra-cost option. I just got a DNS-210 cab with the rat fur on it about a month ago or so.

Problem with that "rat fur" carpeting is they pick up so much stuff - leaves, thread, cat or dog hair, etc. A simple garment roller will remove most of that. If you get little balls on the carpeting, one of those little tools for de-balling wool sweaters works well. If it stinks, either spray some Febreze Fabric Spray on it, or use some spray on carpet shampoo that you can vacuum off when it dries (cover the speakers so they don't get wet). Carpeting is a far better covering than Tolex in my opinion. Every cab I've had that used Tolex on it got torn and the darn Tolex seems to shrink when it tears, making repairs difficult.

*No cover needed to protect carpeted cabs...the carpet is the cover!
*Carpeted cabs handle the knocks and dings better.
*Carpeted cabs do less damage to whatever they knock into.
*”Rat Fur” is a derogatory/jive/hipster term.
*Out of control pets shouldn’t be roaming wild in any civilised environment.
:cool::D
It is a derogatory term, and purposely so.:D

What-- everyone on a holiday break? LOL! I have three cabs that I love and they all have heavy duty carpet covering. There was a time when I loved the black Tolex with a bass amp head with matching Tolex. Now I realize, people don't notice and my cabs still look new. I don't have cats and don't play in Chicken Wing bars so I think I'll be ok. But seriously, who looks at them besides you when you're playing?

I’ve got a couple of Avatar 126 cabinets, identical except one is tolex and the other is painted with whatever black paint they use. They sound the same but i always put the painted one on the bottom when i stack them. They both have covers and in spite of spending a couple years traveling a lot in a truck and then a van, they both look new when the covers come off.

For me, that seems more like a case of why plywood is preferable over MDF. When MDF cracks, the sealant properties is lost, and it becomes hydroscopic. It swells, and begins to tear itself apart. More so for the cheap asian MDF.

Tolex and truck bed spray have better sealing properties than rat fur. Some manufacturers of MDF cabs just use the glue for rat fur as the sealant to save $.
?

Still using it on my go-to gig cab, not pretty but it has advantages for my porpoises ... Velcro grip for acccessories being one. Whatever type they used doesn’t ball up and has held up well.

Personally think that looks pretty nice. Appears to be of much higher quality than my mixer case or the 4x12 guitar cab left in my garage by a bass player buddy about 15 years past.

If the "carpet" covering on speakers and amps could all reliably maintain that look and be easier to clean, that would address many of the issues mentioned above.
