No more StellaTone Tonestyler available ?

Does somebody know where I can actually buy that pot ?

The BASS SIX is a six-position EQ control featuring five hi-cut / mid-cut resonance filters, plus true bypass. Maximum capacitance: .047µF

If you cannot find them (new or used), you can make your own, search around for examples. Or I had a Kellingsound version (he's on eBay). Much cheaper. But I'm not sure what differences there are. Stellartone looks built well, so it may be worth the money (and resale is probably better). Maybe not at $750 :D

There's the Starr Guitar Systems' Rotary varitone style 6 position tone control for bass on eBay... Anybody use this ? Would it yield to the same results ?
Position 1: Bypass - no tone control
Position 2: .015 capacitor
Position 3: .022 capacitor
Position 4: .033 capacitor
Position 5: .047 capacitor
Position 6: .068 capacitor

I don't use such a circuit on my basses, but I do on my Strat Aerodyne. I actually did it 100% DIY so I'm rather familiar with the concept, now. It's both fascinating and far more useful than most people realize. Any guitar should come with one!

The "Rotary Varitone" on Ebay has a much rougher fit and finish than the Stellartone, but the higher selectable cap value of .068 can be a plus IMO, specially if you're interested in getting more punchy mids out of your pups. BTW I'm not even sure you'll hear any impact from the smallest cap (0.015). This will depend on the specs of your pickups (and your playing/listening audio chain).

Two caveats:
1. Works 100% passive so don't expect to put it in an active circuit!
2. The quality of the caps shown in the Ebay ad is suspicious. Personnaly if not doing it it myself, I'd rather wait for the Stellartone to be back in stock, unless in a hurry and motivated by the 0.68 max cap value. Then again, the "Rotary Varitone" is rather cheap...

Good luck!

I suppose you already know this great source on the question? Thanks Antigua :) (who also helped me design my own DIY "Flexitone" for my Aerodyne Strat)
Variable Capacitance How-To

Very good article. I made and tried that kind of system on my P Bass. I happen to have a 24-pole Elma rotary switch, so I use more cap values and no tone pot. The values were from: nothing- 220 kΩ resistor (=tone pot) - and the caps from 470 pF... to 220 nF.
It works and sounds good, but so does normal tone, which is now back on the bass. Try it you may like it.
