No neck stamp on a 69 precision?

hey now!! I just acquired a really nice 69 precision from a friend of my brothers that used to play in wedding bands etc. in the 70’s and 80’s.

I took the old flats off of it and decided I’d pop the pickguard and neck just to see, And there is no date stamp on the neck. Is this something you guys have seen before? Maybe it slipped through the cracks? Could it have worn off. I don’t have enough experience with vintage stuff to know. I did not get a pic of the neck off the body. But here’s a few of the bass itself. Serial on the the plate says it’s a 69. Pots are CTS ‘67

I’m not sure the range of dates, but a lot of Fenders from that era have no neck stamp, and sometimes few other markings. My (now sold but genuine) ‘71 Jazz had nothing more than an oblong circular red crayon mark on the flat part of the neck butt. The neck pocket had the paint-stick mark, but no stamp or marking there either. I wouldn’t sweat it if you know the bass’ history to be genuine.

Thanks Tom there were a few marks in there and “8” in pencil on the flat that goes against the body. I’ll have to open it up again and snap some pics. And the history is solid. Thanks again

If I were a potential buyer, that wouldn't be a deal breaker for me. Of course, I'm not the kind of guy to spend a lot of money on nostalgia, so I'm probably not a serious buyer for that kind of instrument.

Thanks. Good info..Yeah I got a great deal on it. I couldn’t afford one at retail. Just wondering if the master collective has seen necks without stamps.

Ya know, that oblong red crayon mark I mentioned might have been an “8” - open at the top. I can’t check it now (long gone) but it was on the flat part of the heel.

My 53 Precision has a neck with no date stamp. It does have a red stamp that reads "Leo" though

Simply amazing. I would have crapped if I took a neck off and saw that. So cool

I’d put some super low tension strings on that neck, I don’t think you could even get another half turn out of it.
