No pickguard on an EBMM Sterling?

I got a question. If I were to remove the pickgaurd on my EB sterling. Is there gonna be a huge gaping routing hole underneath. Or will I be pleasantly surprised to find my beautiful finish was carried out throughout the body.



Because god knows im scared to find out.

No routs.Some folks even have clear guards on their MM basses.

just so you know, if it is the H/S model, expect to find a dummy coil under the pick guard.

I have an old single humbucker sterling? Is that what you mean by h/s.
(by older i mean mid to late 90's. Not actually that old)

the h/s has the standard humbucker and then a j style pup in the neck position... and the h/h has 2 humbuckers.

If i had one made again i would probably order it pickgaurdless to avoid the holes. but for awhile i'm gonna leave it off. then when i get bored order tortoise shell. Cause I have always wanted a shell pickgaurd. They're just damned cool

Just wood me old skip... took mine orf for a while but soon put it back.... the wood underneath was a different colour!

I've heard that before but I've never seen it. I worked for Ernie Ball this summer and the Sterling HS we took on the Warped didn't have anything under the pickguard. No routes, no dummy coils. I don't remember seeing any thing like that while I was trained in the factory either. I've seen that video of the three coil Sterling, but I've never seen anything like it in real life... I'll have to take a picture of my Sterling HS when it shows up.

The only problem with that is that you can't order one without a pickguard unless it's one of these...

And that's a shame because these basses (as all basses do) look much better without a piece of cheap plastic bolted over that lovely organic looking wood.

Ahh, that could definitely be the case. I was there this summer so I saw mostly new basses.

Yeah. It was a lot easier for me to order a custom guitar when I still knew one of the custom guys who worked there. Thats how I got the bass I have now.

I have a Blue Dawn Sterling and i leave the pickguard off. It's like staring into a galaxy. The blue is the brightest in the center.
