Hello everyone Yesterday my Schecter stiletto stealth 5 bass just stopped and i mean no sound coming . i did troubleshooting from changing battery to looking at wires to make sure nothing loose . which left me with only 2 things to suspect . either preamp died or the pickups . when i hook up the bass to my audio interface and move the volume knob on and off i see the green signal in my audio interface but no sound coming . what you guys think the issue could be ? if its preamp , what should i replace it with ? its Master Volume/Blend/Active 2-Band thanks
As one of my bandmates likes to say, "It's always something simple." If you're seeing a green signal in your interface when you move the volume knob, the problem obviously isn't in the bass or pickup. I'd be willing to bet that it's something so simple and stupid that you will kick yourself after you find it: something isn't plugged in, or is disconnected, or isn't turned on, etc.
I tried my 4 string on the same audio interface and wire , no problem from audio interface or external wire
The green LED on the interface... what exactly does that signify, when it lights? The Schecter doesn't have a passive mode? Did you try it with the battery out?
technically its telling me there a signal from the guitar to the interface , however when i play the bass the green light does not come on which telling me the signal from the bass get cut or somehow off . that green light briefly comes on when i move the knob . either the preamp is dead or the pickups . wish i can troubleshoot this more . the only way for me to know is if i tried the preamp from my 4 strings and see if that makes a difference . the thing is i don't want to cust wires up in my 4 and end up with 2 basses down . unless somehow i can disconnect the wires from the preamp without cutting it
If the battery is too hot, then there's probably a short circuit between the + and - terminals which might explain the problem.
if i leave the battery in without cable connected to the guitar . The battery is fine. Once i hook my cable in my battery get hot . Could be the connector ??
The cable is what switches the preamp on. This behavior only tells you that the output jack is not the problem.
When you took the battery out of circuit, plugged the bass in to your interface, did you get anything out? If the preamp is the problem, another battery probably will not help...
no sound with or without battery , i replaced the battery because to test if the battery heat due to bad battery or something else
This happened recently on my Ray5. It was a wire on the battery connector. It was not all the way off but not making contact. New 9v connector and good as new.
