NOBD. Peavey Patriot!

Found this Peavey Patriot at a pawn shop. Took it home for $ 160.00 out the door.
Made in '87. Mahogany body. Was a little dirty, with dead, grungy strings. Volume pot a little scratchy. Lot of neck relief.
Brought 'er home, cleaned 'er up, adjusted the truss rod a bit, Installed some fresh D'Addario XLs.... Nice little bass! I'm digging it!

These older American made Peaveys are really worth the buzz that they are getting, on TB, and otherwise. They were very well made, and generally have held up very well.
They're kind of a new discovery for me. I briefly had a mid 90s five string Foundation, that I really liked. Didn't keep it long, since I'm not much of a fiver player, but would love to find a four string.

With the pickup position on the Patriot, I wasn't sure if I was going to really like the tone.
I was reading where some were saying that the tone is thin, and lacks bottom end.
I don't really think this is the case. Especially if I boost the bass on my amp a little, and bring the mids and highs down just a bit. (My other bass is a Precision).

Think this might just be a keeper! :) 20170123_174727-1.jpg

Great bass! I stole one just like yours for $99.00 a few years ago.
I love that beat up mojo look! A Thunderbird is on my GAS short list, especially the goth. There's a guy on our CL selling all the parts to make it into a Blackbird for very little. My brother played Thunderbirds forever, so they have a special place in my heart.
Sorry for the hijack, I couldn't help myself. Nice score on the Peavey!

Congrats on the new bass. While the p'up placement may be different, I never found my old Foundation to be lacking in low-end. Those super-ferrites pack a lot of punch. One of the best passive pickups I've heard. Not sure if it's the angle, but it looks like the pickup is about flush with the surround. Maybe raising the pickup will help give you the tone you're looking for.

Thanks for the tip. I had raised the pickup a bit, but I may try raising it just a hair more. Does seem like it gave it a little more thump.

Thanks to everyone for all the great, positive feedback on my new find. ;) Definitely no regrets in picking it up.
