From the photos it looks fine, however, I used http://www.fretsonthenet.com/ (no affiliation) to replace the pickup rings on a t-40. Recommended.
I have noticed that T-40s frequently have bashed up front faces - what's up with that? Hate to see the other guy, I guess.
You can't really see in the photos, but both pickup rings are cracked. Thanks for the link - I'd already known about it, and it was the first place I went looking for rings when the bass got here.
I'm thinking about a set of the anodized aluminum ones (let's see THOSE crack!), and perhaps an anodized-texture pickguard to match.
I picked up the anodized aluminum ones as well - definitely worth the slightly extra cost.

Do they offer an anodized aluminum pickguard for the T-40?
the t-40 was the reason i started playing bass. i bought a t-60 ('78 natural) guitar years ago just "to be different", and didn't love it, but it made a nice change from the tele without being a strat or LP. later while surfing local classifieds i found the exact matching t-40 for 200$. i took them both to a jam just to show off the set, and someone said "hey play that bass", so i did, and i do.
It's pretty solid. Build quality is quite good, at least as good as any Fender I've seen. The neck is straight and fits into the pocket snugly without binding up - I can't fit a business card in the space on either side, and there are no rattles, fret buzz, or dead spots anywhere. It's in amazing shape for being almost 40 years old, so I can't imagine it saw a lot of use in its lifetime. As far as feel goes, it's a bit like my Foundation but a lot more solid.
I'm sure I could have one made, but the ones I've been looking at were plastic with an anodized texture. I'm not sure I'd want to put an aluminum guard up against the finish.
Purty! Never tried one, but always appreciate the classics! No Idea on the value, but there's a nice looking one on local CL, asking $450?
