It's New / Old Bass Day!
This bass has my first Warmoth bass body, paired with a recent Warmoth neck. The original P bass neck had cracked and been repaired, but I decided to get a new, slimmer neck for it. This project had sat undone since I got the neck. Although I usually do my own parts assembly work, I finally decided to get Bryan Parris Guitar Repair to assemble it, and got it back last week.
The 1989 P-bass body is walnut, finished with low-gloss tung oil, and is quite heavy. Pickups are the original 1989 EMG actives with VVT controls. The 2020 J neck is roasted maple with the slim taper contour and graphite bars. Tuners are Hipshot Y's and the bridge is a [This invalid link has been removed].
I had not played it (the body, at least) since 2005, and it was time to get it out and use it again. How do you imagine it sounds? If you guessed very clear and punchy, you are spot-on. That's EMG actives for you. However, with the wood combination, it does treble roll-off very well- resulting in a very warm tone that is still well-defined.
Thought I would share a morning-sun picture with everyone today. It's good to have it back! I believe I will plug into my new Genzler BA-10-2-Combo and play a while this morning. Yay!
