If you have noiseless pickups, balancing toward the bridge or neck (vs 50/50) will reduce the inherent two pickup mid scoop. Of course you can do that with any pickup if you don't mind the hum.

Most are single coil, but I don't notice the hum in a live environment.

I'm curious about this too but the JJ tubes that it comes with are some of the quietest tubes you can buy. That's a good fit with the intended clean tone with low noise floor. Other tubes may provide more grind.

Tubes are ECC82 / 12AU7.

Yesterday I restrung my Fender American Jazz Deluxe 5 from Fender rounds to Sadowsky flats. With my previously favorite Noble settings and flats, the tone is too dark. I need to experiment with new settings, particularly because the bass also has a Sadowsky preamp.

Which is just a reminder that all the "favorite" Noble knob settings you read about here mean nothing unless you factor the complete signal chain (aside from personal preference).

I agree. It's funny though, I haven't touched my Noble EQ even for my AVRI with flats switching to my EB Stingray active. It's pretty conservative though - a little under 9 oclock for bass and treble.

Regarding EQ settings, I found out via Facebook that Tim Lefebvre's setting for treble is flat. Most of us already know that his engineer likes to have the HPF engaged and the bass all the way up. I was glad to learn the other knob position out of curiosity since the bass setting is somewhat extreme.

Got some additional compliments from a sound guy at last night's gig. He asked what box I was using, and said it was the nicest sound he'd gotten out of a bass in that venue.

Last night's rig:

Loaned out the Markbass rig earlier in the week, and I needed to use one of my powered PA speakers to get through a quick rehearsal. No sweat for the Noble.

Liked the tone so much I had to try it on a gig. Beautiful beautiful sound all night long

That is really interesting to me. Does anyone else have any experience in using powered bass cabs or PA speakers with the Noble?

I have been seriously considering it because
1) Everything I put the Noble through sounds stinking amazing

2) I have been trying to simplify at least one part of my rig and having the amplifier and cab in one enclosure would be nice, while having the Noble on my board and

3) With my current rig, I am pretty much feeling like having the preamp on my amp is a bit redundant, as I pretty much run whatever I go through flat and boost from the Noble.

Been thinking about buying one of the new QSC k.2 series speakers

So i went to Guitar Center today with my Noble to play around with some powered speakers. Of course they didn't have the QSC K.2 series, just the first K series. They had the K12 along with comparably priced versions of JBL, Mackie ect.

Of course any time you go to a music store it is never a good representation of what things really sound like. First off, all the speakers were elevated on stands (my sales person was not really willing to put one on the ground) It left me wanting from each of the 3 models. I'm pretty sure the DSP was set to weird presets. I was really hoping for a flat representation of the speaker so i could see what the Noble would do. Bummer.

Oh well, maybe I will have to wait to see what shows up in my area.

Have you looked into the Mike Arnopol powered cabs? They have started offering powered versions of several of their smaller cabs, like the MAS-45.5.

I can commiserate about having local availability of gear to check out. Besides GC, there are only a couple music stores in my immediate area and most of the stuff they carry is beginner/entry-level stuff. No boutique bass shops that I know of within about 4 or 5 hr. drive. :-/

OT: If memory serves me correctly, it was a Carvin 3-way PA amp that was the original inspiration for Dave "Greenboy" Green's line of fEARfull (and following fEARless line) of cabs. I gigged those for several years and they are superb. Dave always said the PA cabs were not up to par for electric bass. You might check out that thread or log into Dave's website for more on that topic. And now back to our regular Noble Channel....

This was my rig for the past two nights, and I have to admit that I'm beginning to prefer it to my Markbass combo. I didn't even bring the Markbass out as a contingency in the event that I couldn't get a good sound - the Noble and powered speaker just 'work' for me.

FWIW, my speaker is a pretty affordable brand (Alto 112 I think) so I would imagine a better one would sound, well, better lol.

I say get a micro power amp and a cab of your choice and call it a day.
