Noble flipping?

If you think you can find enough buyers that need it right now instead of paying extra, but less than what you are selling for and then just waiting for the fast track build, go for it. You're risking your money to provide a service and taking a profit. But you may also be saturating the market that you're attempting to take advantage of. It's like the asteroid that they have proposed mining that has loads of precious metals and is worth trillions of dollars, except when you flood the market with that amount of precious metals, the market collapses and your multi-trillion dollar asteroid is now worth far less.

That’s just a matter of establishment. When retailers do it, it’s called capitalism.

When Wells Fargo loans your savings out multiple times over its called “banking” and they get wealthy. When we do that it’s called “a Ponzi scheme” and we get “arrested”.

you’re presenting this as if I don’t think that already.

However, while I do long to be placed on the jury with any corporate entity as defendant, it’s worth noting that while corporations are “people“ doing terrible things, actual people choosing to be the bacteria of capitalism do hold their own special place in my scorn.

I don’t know. My attempt to control for the dynamics of one’s playing apparently creates a new problem.

Maybe you have a suggestion?

Regarding this impedance question I’m fairly confident you are already the smarter one!
Passinwind is a very intelligent and knowledgeable guy.

When he challenges me on something, I just call him an old fart and move on.

The problem of YouTube is that the video is highly compressed already, so especially things like compressor demos are really compressed a second time by an invisible compressor. But flawed as it may be, it's a great way to find candidates that you might want to try.

Agreed, it certainly can be for some things. Back in July I was contemplating buying a weird non-bass instrument and found a couple of YT demos that encouraged me to at least give a locally owned one a try, which I did end up buying.

I'm not gonna read all the replies, but I will say that if someone is dumb enough to pay a 100% mark up to get one today, then that's on them - not the seller. The seller may be selfishly raising the price, but no one is being "taken advantage of". This isn't diapers or eggs or gas or another commodity - Nobles are luxury items that people buy because they want one.

So while such a scheme just doesn't make a lot of financial sense for a lot of reasons, I certainly wouldn't call anyone willing to make that choice a bad actor. They see a "service" and are risking their own cash to provide that service. If the market doesn't support it, then they are out of luck. If the market can support it, then blame the consumers who choose to "buy it now" at a premium.

I was more using you as a vehicle to say something funny!

I'm flipping $75 bar gigs these days for a buck fiddy, want in? ;)
You guys are getting paid?

Are Noble DIs to GASsy bass players more akin to Gamestop stocks in 2020, Dogecoin crypto, NFTs in '22 , or 17th Century Tulip-mania?
Dogecoin paid for my tattoos. Should have bought Noble preamps with them instead.

I vote no on this idea. Seems like a risky investment strategy and the builder would probably put a cap on what you can order unless you get crafty.

Plus, gear comes and goes. The Noble pre will reign for a while and then be replaced by something else. Or someone will do a great job of reverse engineering it and sales will drop. Or Noble decides to sell the design for decent money and it gets mass produced in China for a lot less.

You’re describing ‘scalping’

Um, I'm not sure that's entirely accurate. Event tickets can be "scalped" because there's only a finite number of them. But anyone who wants a Noble can get in the 10-month queue and pay only the retail price. The supply, while not ubiquitous, is, at least for the foreseeable future, not finite. Flipping Nobles is simply taking advantage of the impatience of customers who don't want to wait out the build time.

"No risk it no biscuit" they say. But take a look at what has happened to the Klon lately. You can now buy a $99 kit from JHS pedals and easily build your own "Klon" like pedal. It's called the NOTAKLON. I don't know if the Noble is just as easily replicated but if someone comes out with a suitable substitute then that could have an impact on your business plan. Just sayin.

NOTAKLÖN - Preorder

I'm waiting for the Behringer Nobility Pro! :cigar:

There is in fact already a Nobel clone available to DIYers, as with so many other pedals these days. There are many many other Klon Centaur knockoffs as well.

But Josh Scott knows how to market.

So I've heard, there is a long thread on that at one of the pedal builders' forums I hang on a bit. Since that forum is largely about clone stuff, it kind of comes of as pot-kettle-black, but so it goes!
