I was sad to find out today about this. He was the first bass player that influenced me to not just play what the guitarist plays. He was the anchor for when Mitchell anad Hendrix would go off. Noel would be there laying it down, afro flowin' in the air. Some of my favorite bass players are the ex-guitarists that switch over. Very melodic players. My favorite Noel Redding lines are "Red House", which he actually used a guitar to do the bass part. They eq'd it in the mix to sound like a bass. That's how he does the cool sounding blues chords on that song. My second fav. would be "Third Stone from the Sun". He layed down the groove.
