Noise

My bass sounds fine when I have the tone knob all the way to the "low bassy" side, but if I turn it to any other position than full anticlockwise I get noise, well obviously not just noise but the bass sound with annoying noise over it,like the noise you get when you put your finger on a naked jack that leads to an amp.
If I put my finger on the metal around jack, the noise dissapears and Im left with what it should be sounding like.
Could anyone help me please?

Its the same when I run it through the amp,or mixer or even tried through the PC,its the same everywhere.
What bothers me is that it fully clears up if I put my finger on the metal around the jack input or have the tone to full anticlockwise.
If it was the tone pot I dont understand why it would clear up when I touch the jack. Are you sure it would fix it if I replaced it?

It sounds like a bad earth or the bridge needs to be earthed.

If it uses single coil pickups, then a full shielding is worthwhile.

Thanks for the info so far.

But how do I ground it properly? Where do I put the wire(from where to where does it go?)

Sorry to be such a noob(but we all have to start somewhere),hehehe.

There should be a hole drilled under the bridge, with a wire poking up so the bare part is under the bridge plate. The other end is soldered to ground. Could be the back of a pot, etc.
