Noisy Schecter Studio 5

[Fret Noise]

My Schecter Studio 5 is about a year old. The treble control pot makes a horrible noise (60cycle hum, maybe) when turned up at all. Must keep treble all the way rolled off. Changing batteries dosnt correct the prtoblem. I try to add treble on the Amp (Peavey TNT 115) and the noise is still there.

The noise is 10 x worst when playing through a PA system via a direct box.

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

no one? Does anyone have one of these basses and have upgraded electronics? Kinda want to change the sound anyway. I play alot of rock (with fingers) and a bit of slap as well.

I like the way my Schecter Studio-6 looked, played, and sustained when I first bought it.
But, I had the same electronic issue. Luckily I got a great deal and had some cash to upgrade. I installed an Aguilar OBP-3 Preamp and replaced the EMG-HZs with EMG-DCs.
Now I get tons of compliemnts from the crowd, other musicians, and soundguys. I only have around $650 into it and it competes with basses that are 1000-1200.
I like having the push/pull mid freq switch. It keeps it versatile.

If I were you, I'd change the pre before the pups, but it's easiest to do it all at once.

Did yours have an active/passive toggle? if so, how are you happy with that? was the install difficult? Thanks.

The only thing I didn't do, was add the passive/active toggle. It would be nice. The Aguilar and EMGs do draw power. I play that particular bass 4-8 hours a week on gigs.
I change both 9volts about every 6-8 weeks.

My controls are Treble/Mid(switchable freq)/Bass/Pup Blend/Volume.

I technically know how to do the install, but it would've taken me forever to
do it myself and do a clean job. I paid Brian at The Lowend to do it.

He did a similair upgrade on a Studio-5 for another TB'r. His handle is stflbn .

He got new electronics, pups, bridge, and more. It's sweet. But I'm done with mine.

Besides being a little too heavy, I love it. Great Low B.
