Non-Ampeg Tube Amps

For low volume playing and recording I'll sometimes use my GF's Fender Lead 75 amp loaded with its one 15" speaker instead of my little amp which cannot be named. It's technically a guitar amp. Just like a Bassman is technically a bass amp. So sue me.

This one isn't hers. But this is what they look like:



Fender's last all tube turret board wired production amp before they went completely over to PCB construction. It's one of their best amps too IMO.

You are probably right about the 35 watts. I think most of the old tube amps that claimed 50 were more like 35.

There's a lot about them online, just put Alamo Fury in Google, I guess the guitar players like them.

I'll play. Really digging this Guild ThunderBass 50-60watt tube head. It's loud (for 50watts) played through the Peavey 115 with an Altec loaded in it.

This might be as close as you can get to a 'non Ampeg' Ampeg: Jess Oliver's last hurrah, the Oliver Powerflex 500, early 70s. Channel One sounds like a B-15, Channel Two is Fenderish. Seems louder than my '64 B-15.

The gimmick was a motor to raise the head out of the cabinet. That's the on/off switch in the front.

7027 power tubes . Jess said he wished he'd spaced the tube sockets far enough apart to use KT-88s. The transformers would certainly provide enough grunt.

There was also a 2-15 version and some PA variants.

Surprised these haven't been mentioned, yet. The Verellen Meat Smoke. I have never had the pleasure of playing through the tube amp, but I've had the tube pre.. soooo tasty. I will get the 300 watt tube amp one day.

man that mesa 400 brings back memories. that is a great amp. i had one in the late eighties/early nineties. i ain't lugging around heavy gear anymore though.
i have gone class D.

View attachment 980852 I currently own (among other amps) an Aguilar DB659 preamp & Aguilar DB728 power amp, played into an Aguilar GS410...does this count? Two 12ax7 and eight 6550 tubes, sounds amazing but since it's my "dream rig" it only goes out to shows I know it'll be safe at.

I also used to own a Mesa/Boogie 400+. Man, that thing was a monster...two channels into 12 6L6 tubes. Wish I still had it but times got hard.
