Noob already looking for second bass...

You're right about the GAS. My girlfriend actually bought me the bass I have with assistance from my guitar playing son who told her that this is an "accessory heavy" hobby. :)

As far as the saving for higher end gear, I'm realistic about this- I'm a 43yo hobbyist with 2 kids in college. A good mid- level is about as far as I'll probably go, at least at this point. Until that deal comes along that I just can't pass up.

Noshtero, thanks for the suggestion, but I can't see spending the money on something I know is going to be a stepping stone. I'm not out get another bass today, I'll wait and do some research before I pull the trigger.
