noob microphone placement question.

Having no knowledge of this.. I see where people like, mic their amps with a mic right in the middle of one of the speakers. I do it with my h2 and then load my file onto the computer and i can hear "barking." i assume it to be the air from the speakers blowing into the mic. Should i be placing this somewhere else? would a windscreen fix this?

Well, wow, barking? I take it that's not a good thing. And no, 99.9% of folks don't mic the center of a cone.....more than once. Try it at 1 o'clock or 9 o'clock or....you get the idea. You might even set it at say 9 and angle it toward the outer edge of the cabinet. When people say on the grill generally they mean from less than 1" away up to maybe 6" away. Not centered and not touching.

I'd say if you hear air moving you are way, way, way too loud or way, way way too close. Back up for take 2 and it should be fine.

I put a mic dead center because it's brighter there. The more off center you go, the darker it gets.

I think your problem is you're either overloading the mic or the H2's preamp.

yea, bass tends to sound good dead center because we dont (and have a really hard time getting) overly bright tones. on a guitar this can be murder.

but if its a darker tone you prefer, go off center or try moving the mic off axis.

could be clipping as stated. or overloading the capsule.

Try with a dynamic mic (a bass drum style dyn mic) and than play with the position of the mic regarding the amp. Lately I don´t mike close to the cone, I say a few inches away to get the sound of the whole amp and never pointed to the center (it never sounded good to me). I also use a condenser mic at maybe 2-2.5 meters away for a little 3D sound (check out the phase)

its a hand recorder? how big is the capsule? likely an inch or less. not really suited for picking up deep bass. if its thin, thats why. if its fuzzy, you're either clipping the preamp or distorting the capsule on the mic. back up and/or turn down and try again
