Sorry if this has been discussed before. I would search but I don't know what to ask. I have a friend who has been recording his own folk/country (mostly acoustic) on a digital Tascam recorder, overdubbing all the instruments himself and burning it on CDs. Now he no longer has the time or space to dedicate to this arduous process. I thought it could be fun to revive his interest and help him by recording some of the instrumentation and somehow send it to him, and he could send it back to me for vocals, and then back to him again...etc..etc.

We both have PCs. I am assuming there is some sort of device (interface?) to get the guitar (acoustic or electric) into the computer, and some sort of software to manipulate the sound after that to send it to someone else as a file, where a second party can add their part and so on back and forth. Just something effective but real basic without a lot of investment or learning curve. Thanks for the help or for just pointing me to a link.
