Noob question

Although I've been playing for 40 years, until this year I've always run a stock bass directly into my amp; no effects, no mods, so in some ways I am a noob.

My question is simple and I haven't been able to find an answer on the board (although I don't have the greatest search skills). I have a 2006 Fretless Fender American Standard Jazz that is completely stock. I'd like to put in the Fender 60's custom shop pickups. Is that a straight swap, or should I worry about anything else?

What do you mean straight swap? Some would argue that because it's an American bass, you shouldn't need to swap the PUPs, but no worries we got your back;)! I recently swapped out mine on my MIM Fender Jazz(stock Pups for Duncan quarter pounders) and the guy just switched'em like that.

I don't know much about this. I was just wondering if I need to worry about the pots or anything else. I'm going to have a repairman do it, but I just wanted to make sure there wasn't some other issue I should be considering.

If its a Fender Standard, and the new pickups are passive (which the CS 60's are), then there is no need to change the pots unless they are worn out. Being a 2006 they shouldn't be. So you should be fine with just the pickup switch. It's always fun to do projects like this. I would suggest learning basic soldering skills. Swapping pickups is a pretty basic soldering job, and fun. It will save you some money too... That being said I usually go back to the stock setup. I tried and liked the CS 60's, but I am currently using the stock pickups in my jazz standard.
