Like many of us here on TB, I've tried a bunch of different Jazz Bass Pickups over the years trying to find/get THAT/those tone(s). I finally sprung for a set of Nordstrand NJ5FS pickups and Immediately fell in love with them, they ARE by far, hands down the absolute best sounding Jazz Bass pickups I ever heard/played; I have 0 gripes or regrets about purchasing these pickups. They are plenty warm, clear/articulate, punchy and even sounding across the strings and the entire fretboard, AND they can "growl" 
; I think they're great, and I'm quite sure I'll be putting another set in future J Bass(es). They just work. My favorite J Bass pickups used to be Fender Custom Shop 60's and Fender Gen. 4 pups (from the Fender Elite series), they have now taken a "back seat" to the Nordy's; Thanks Nordstrand for the Great pickups.
