Nordstrand preamp and Wizard pups......

Just completed my refit on my 24 year old bass Married two custom built soapbar humbuckers with different windings for neck and bridge with a Nordy 3 band vol, pan, treb, push pull mid (400hz/1kz) and bass.

I had read about Andy Blake of Wizard Pickups in Wales on another forum site and after letting him know what I wanted by phone he hand built and delivered my new pups in four days! I cannot recommend this guy highly enough, he is really helpful and knows his stuff and is renowned for a quick turnaround.

Must also mention Stew from Nordstrand who has been equally helpful

After much routing, drilling and soldering my old bass sounds completely different, thicker and punchier with lots of usable tone.

I'm a well pleased BassTool

How is the pre-amp??? I have a two band Aguilar in one of my basses & I'm thinking about installing that new Nordstrand 3-band.

In a word - smooth. All three tones are very nicely chosen, but a word of caution - I already mentioned this on another thread - you must stipulate the two mid frequencies you want to use with the pull pot, you have a choice between about 200hz and 1k. You do not get a sweepable mid on this unit like the East has. And it really likes to work with decent pups - Andy Blake recommended I change mine after I sent one of my originals down to him to check, and the difference his new pups made to the preamp as well as the guitar is marked. Of course these things are hit and miss as you can't try them out on your own axe but I would recommend the Nordy....

nice one - i've heard a bit about Wizard p/ups...i've got a squier jazz on the way that i'm already thinking about dropping a set of the dark jazz ones into!

It's a Westone Superheadless, cheesy to some, but as I sing and play at the same time, and I've had it 24 years ,it sits just right and plays itself I can't part with it but wanted to upgrade it. Very glad I did.
