Nordstrand Starlifter preamp pedal

I've been looking a nice, simple, clean preamp/DI for my small board and I think the Starlifter is going to be it. What I have found in my search after trying pedals with umpteen knobs, switches, and parameters is that I really prefer simplicity, and the Starlifter easily fits the bill.

It’s easily the best I’ve played. I compared it to the REddi, Noble, Mesa Subway Plus Preamp, Ampeg SCR, and RNDI and still liked it best. It really shines in a mix with clarity and punch. Preamp is so simple and easy to dial in. I do have a New Olympic Shift Line Tube Preamp to compare to it. It will be the last pedal I try if it doesn’t beat it. It would take something phenomenal to beat the Starlifter though.

I'm curious to hear from users also. I don't like buying things brand new but I like the sound and will be curious what people will be saying a year from now

Anyone have one?

Sure. I've used other "EQ / DI pedals" before and they provided a utility, this pre-amp IMHO gives you a way to craft a different tone with it's own character. I still use a Mesa WD-800 head, but occasionally I will use the Starlifter preamp into the aux in for a completely different tone. It kind of reminds me a little of the Alembic F-1X in that it's a clean tone machine, or even the Demeter HPB1. Probably because the treble freq center is on the high side, it seems to impart a somewhat hi-fi vibe without going to far.

I agree with this assessment %100.

Anyone compared the Starlifter to the Basswitch IQ DI? Some similar features, and both relatively large size.

Just packed up my Starlifter for a gig this afternoon. This pedal just goes to every single gig and practice I have. I run mine into the return on the back of my Epifani Piccolo555 most of the time. Great tones everytime!!

Man I can't believe how good the pedal is. Use mine 100% of the time every where I go and it's won over a lot of pedals that cost 2-3 times the price. People are sleeping on this pedal.

I keep trying to add a clever GIF to indicate how much I want to try one of these, but it's not working, lol. I need this. Too bad I'm broke. I need to sell some of the 4-5 pedals I just bought in the last month. Maybe I could take it out of my tithe budget, since I'd be using it to worship and give God the glory and all. Meh. That's a stretch.

I've had some of the best pedals and basses you can have built or buy and this Starlifter is the single greatest bass gear purchase I've ever had. I own Genzler stacks which is the best Amplification IMO you can get and this starlifter makes it to where I don't need them lol.
