Double Bass Northern Lutherie - Blueberry Pi

No, I was just curious when I saw your post so I googled it. I saw this video so I reposted it here. Even though that's the company, I don't think it really could be the best representation of how it sounds- it looks like he wasn't even sure what amp he was using.
I haven’t tried the Blueberry PI pickup, but if you’re looking for an inexpensive wing pickup, I own two of Vic’s pickups Model B.

Both have been solid and reliable. The pickup works best with a preamp. I currently use a tonedexter as my preamp. I am pretty sure there are others who use Vic’s pickups on TB. I think on the rockabilly forum. I play mainly Trad Jazz

I have several pickups from Northern Lutherie. Cello, banjo, and mandolin. They all have been great for me. Super easy installs! And good tone quality. I've also heard one on an upright bass. I've been playing around with one in a cajon and it is promising, I just haven't figured out the ideal placement yet in the cajon. But they have been great in all the strings I've put them in. The price can't be beat, and if You have an issue! they back up their product in a timely manner well. I am sure I will install a few more of these on other instruments in the future.
Im the founder of northern lutherie our goal is to provide a great pickup built in the usa here in Milwaukee area and stand by our products 100% of the way. Our formula is what sets us apart. And our videos are for installations more so than audio sampling. I in fact didnt know what amp i was playing through, and it wasnt my instrument. I feel its difficult to show its potential through a video for us. I mean, we are a really small company our descriptions are vague because we are doing everything from the ground up. And over see all operations ourselves. Im not the best writer and or business minded guy. But i make damn good pickups.
Please let me know what information youd like to read or see videos on to help us develop. I sincerely would like your business and go out of my way to make sure we satisfy all our clients.

Ryan has only been a TB member for one day and he's already going out of his way to make an impact! He is providing me with one of Northern Lutherie's Dual Sensor Blueberry Pi pickups to see what I think of it. I will be providing TB a full review of the pickup once I have it installed.
I'm looking forward to your review. It would be nice to eventually have some sound clips through commonly used upright amps (GK150, etc.). It looks like a nice pickup and I think that would go a long way towards getting the word out.
i like that there are only piezos on one side. i think this is important for sound. one thing i have been hoping for is a pickup with piezo on one side and softish rubber on the other side in kind of a dome shape. soft enough that it could squish so you can slide the pickup into a smaller space than the size of the pickup, but firm enough that it will push back firmly enough to hold it in place with a good sound. kind of like a self fitting pickup with its own shim built in that could customize itself to any bridge gap. does this make sense?
Unfortunately, due to the lack of real standard wing/thigh gap, it is going to a potential concern. One cool thing I can do for clients is custom make the crowns to fit the gap for their bridge. I've been so busy that most of the pickups I am selling now are made to order! My surplus inventory has been depleted and the orders coming in are typically made by hand day of.
Also a soft crown on an element is a delicate balance it took me years to learn. to much softness you will lose response. You can reach out to me with any questions. I believe we will be reading a detailed review very soon from Warpeg!

I would imagine that too much stiffness could choke the sound also
I want to also mention our goal is to keep our foot print relatively small, yet establish a new industry standard. I would say, anything more than 5 unit sales a day is too many. I want to be sure all our clients get individual attention, quality and can feel comfortable reaching out to us. I want to be able to personally, offer mod requests and make sure our quality control is at it's absolute best. Quality over Quantity and an old school business model is what we are after! I feel that's been diminishing in our society.
