Not a bad halftime show

I thought it was pretty commonly understood that the Super Bowl is basically been pantomimed for years now. I've heard that they record them performing a dress rehearsal or something and then that's used for the actual performance. The logistics of what they want for the spectacle make the audio portion too much to set up and take down reliably in within the time constraints. It's lame, but that's just how it goes.

First, I thought it was pretty darn good. I'm a hip hop fan.
Second, blame the Black Eyed Peas for it only being karaoke. After their performance, the show became vocals only. Now, Anderson Paak and all the other players played, they just did it earlier and it was recorded. That left just the rapping live, which was all excellent.
Last, we gotta pour a little out for Prince. RIP!

Exactly and those 3 flags in the last few minutes. Looked like the NFL wanted a Rams win.

Honestly, in comparison to most Hip Hop shows I’ve seen, it was top notch.

It’s true, at least for the broadcast to people at home. She sang live in the stadium but the broadcast version was previously recorded in a studio. What you’re seeing/hearing in the video you linked is the lip synced version. Here’s a good summary: Best Super Bowl anthem performance was lip synced
I'm deff behind on songs I'm learning, so I spent all of it downstairs practicing. No major loss. I think I vaguely remember telling my wife I'd watch half time with her (maybe).
Ended upstairs (needed a sandwich) during the Austin Powers/Dr. Evil commercial and was just blown away at the money and effort that go into advertising. I was also blown away as that's deff one of my few favorite movie series. Some people think its moronic, I think it's genius. Then back downstairs.
I read through this entire thread and it hit me how much my life has changed. I was never into watching sports but I'd usually watch the Super Bowl. When it was Prince/Madonna/IDK I wouldn't have missed that then or now, My wife said it was M&M and I wondered if that was the real Slim Shady for a split second and continued back downstairs.
Picking up the BassGuitar about 10 years ago literally changed my life in a profound way. I'm too busy collaborating with and playing scheming with local musicians now and I'm 58. I just don't or can't focus at all on many things that I used to. Overall not a bad thing and I'm pretty sure it saved my life.
Now back to our regularly scheduled program......

Easily the most watched musical performance of the year yet no instruments were actually played, no vocals were actually delivered, everything was pantomimed to pre recorded tracks.

This is totally different than Milli Vanilli.
Because MV had no real vocal capababilities vack then (that got after years of that debacle).
These guys played everything you hear.
It was only recorded earlier that day.
But it is still actual instruments, vocals, and added production you hear.
Just with a delay of some hours.
You still have to be on the top of your game when doing a live SB show.
Its not for the faint hearted.
And the musicians in the backing bands of these shows are far from that.
The only thing you can diike is that some artists basically make fun of it/take it as serious in terms of replication (flea with his non llugged bass, or mics pulling away).
I find that a bit of a shame as it makes people think its all a joke/not real and that doesnt give the respect to the musicians/crew thst are working their asses off that day, and the weeks leading up to it.
Shoot, all they need was 2 turntables and a microphone....
People work their asses off every day friend. That does not make it any less a faked performance to pre recorded tracks. Just because I think it’s a joke does not mean I don’t respect those who participated. They didn’t get paid, but they got some serious exposure although those who got the most exposure needed it the least, everyone out there got some, even if it was just an opportunity for mom to squeal when she saw her kid on national TV pretending to play an instrument, it was worth it on some level to everyone who did it. I doubt anyone involved had their arm twisted.
But more importantly my fellow gearheads...is Snoop really out here wearing universal IEM earbuds???
