Not a fan of GHS Strings...

I like the Boomers, they have a fuller sound than most roundwounds IMO, the Progressives are really good neutral sounding tapered strings, the Pressurewounds are my favorite inbetween roundwound/flatwound strings, and the P Flats have that broken in flatwound sound right out of the box. I don't use any GHS strings right now though, there are other strings that are more in line with my personal preferences.

Progressives have purple silks.

Keep in mind they are not brighter than ALL nickels. They are brighter than Boomers, but not as bright as D'Addario, SIT, or Circle K nickels.

Bongo and I like a little bit different tone in a string. :)

While I will agree that the Progressives are not as bright as the above, their tone is better. D'Addario and SIT sound snappy and lively to mmbongo while they sound bright and hollow to me. I don't mean those as negatives, they are just not what I want in a bass. Circle K's almost sound overdriven to me. I've never heard such a tone before honestly. I think the Progressives are a bit brighter than DR Nickel Low Riders. Low Riders have always had a slightly dead sound to me in the nickels.

Interesting topic. I mainly keeps flats on all my basses, but ran across some Boomers dirt cheap yesterday. Picked them up and slapped them on my Yamaha bass, just to mix things up a little. They sound quite nice right out of the package without the twang of other rounds I have tried. They are also comfortable on the fingers.

I use stainless Lo Riders. I didnt like the nickles

With me, it varies - I have some basses that sound their best with Boomers, others with D-Addario EXL 160s or 170s, and still others that sound best with EBMM Slinkys... I have never been dissatisfied with Boomers, FWIW...

The only issue I can think of is that my local GC only stocks Boomer mediums for 4 strings in long scale plus, for some ******** reason - I've spoken to them several times about it, to no avail... but that isn't an issue with GHS...

Progressives in custom gauges from Jason, 45-60-80-105-135 are a great way to go! I've been using the 4-string custom gauges on my Rick 4002 since @1993.

The other great B string that GHS makes is the Super Steels in regular long gauge for traditional 34 inch scale top load bridges: .138. After it settles in, it blends with almost everything. I even use it with Fender 9050CL flats, which are also stainless steel wrap, just flat instead of round, and since I love the GDAE in 45-60-80-105, but don't like the Fender B string.

I used boomers when carvin used to sell them back in the '80's. I'd order 3 sets for free shipping, they sounded great on my Kramer XL-9, any way one day I took my stingray to Hugh McFarland for a set up and I was checking out his '70's jazz, and liked the feel and sound of the strings..he said they were DR hi-beams haven't looked back since. I've tried other strings but DR's are it for me.
No knock on boomers, I just prefer stainless steel.

I've used those and liked them much better than the nickels. I generally like nickels better.

I use .45 .65 .85 .106 .136. Love the tone and the feel.

Never used their stainless but if I ever have the need/itch to go stainless I will go GHS. I love their strings!

I want to try the progressives, but silks really bug me. I just cant handle this look. The fact that they are all tattered, and they never line up, they just look sloppy compared to a string that doesn't use them
